Schefflera- leaves turning black and dropping
Comments (15)My one was outside my girlfriends house in a tiny pot, in full sun and sometimes went without water. The stalks were long and widespread, the leaves had yellow streaks. There was hardly any soil anymore, just roots. It was tall but the leaves were few, a sign to me of a plant needing a new environment, or a bigger pot. We moved house and I moved the plant inside, and into a much bigger pot. I also trimmed about 6 of the longest stalks off. I watered her slowly, trying not to over water it. The leaves fell off and the plant kinda went into hibernation while it was adapting to it's new environment. About a month later the thing exploded into life as the roots had obviously taken nicely, and now it's in better condition than I've ever seen it. I also believe its good to cut the stalks down now and again (1 or 2 at a time). The leaves started going black too a short while ago, and just falling off (the whole leaf, not jut the tips). I think I was over watering it. So I left it a few days and started watered less frequently. Seems to be doing a lot better now....See MoreCalamondin tree, leaf drop and now leaves are tiny
Comments (6)Ugh. I hate that. My orange tree has dropped all its fruit the past 2 years (just bought the tree 2 years ago). So disappointing. Did the pomegranate flower but not set fruit? If so, maybe the female flowers simply were not pollinated. That's what happened to me last year (first year growing them). By the time I figured it out, I was able to hand pollinate three of them. This year I hand polinated a bunch, but also watched a couple and saw one that pollinated on its own. If you can't tell the difference between male and female, the female flowers are bigger and more swolen at the base. Inside the flower, there is the "female part" (for lack of knowledge of the proper term) sticking out in the center. Once you figure out which is which, they are easy to recognize. And I think it is all male at first, and even when the females start forming, they are greatly out numbered. You can hand polinate them with a soft paintbrush....See MoreCalamondin orange dropping leaves.
Comments (3)It is not uncommon for citrus to drop a large amount of leaves when changing environment, and when people bring them indoors from outside this is a common problem. Some slowly introduce them for a few hours each day, increasing the time indoors until it is adapted. My meyer dropped over half of its leaves when I first bought it, but is recovering nicely. Make sure the air is humid - spray the leaves, get a pebble tray or humidifier, whatever you can get to help with humidity. The air indoors is dry from our central heating compared to the fresh air outside! I wouldn't worry too much, unless the leaves look unhealthy before they fall. Just let it adapt to its new home, reduce fertilizer and water carefully - it will probably need water less now that its approaching winter....See MoreLeaf drop and yellow leaves. Suggestions please.
Comments (3)One of the highest times for a citrus tree to drop leaves is when the tree flowers. I would not worry about over watering a tree planted in 5-1-1. If there was any cause to be concerned with a 5-1-1 medium it would be under watering. I remember a trial on the old Citrus Growers forum, where a grower watered a 5-1-1 every day for two months, and the tree did excellent. Your tree looks fine. There is a little manganese deficiency on the newest leaves, but at the deficiency level of your tree's leaves not much to worry about. The tree will probably grow out of that on it own....See Morebrooklyn_oranges
