Picea omorika 'Pendula Bruns'

I have a 5 foot tall 'Pendula Bruns' that I planted this spring. Over the summer it started to lean and the top began to curl over. This winter we have had several heavy snowfalls and the snow piling on the branches has really caused it to lean. It was not staked when I got it from the nursery, but I'm wondering if I need to stake it now. Pictures I've seen in books show this plant growing quite upright, and I'm worried that mine has such a curve it will never recover if I don't stake it. (I've also read that staking ultimately weakens the trunk and so you shouldn't stake) Any advice is appreciated.
