How about pictures of my only Adeniums?

My favourite Adenium is in the link below. That person isn't me, but if my back was on that beautiful trunk, I'd have a similar expression on my face.

You are correct about the face expression.....That is the biggest adenium anybody ever see....

My favourite adenium (because I grew it best), though, is Adenium arabicum - the one I got from Tropiflora Nurseries in Saratoga, FLA grew very well for me in San Diego. I had to let it go, though, before I moved up here. Anyway, here's a favourite picture of one. The best picture (of A. socotranum again) is the last one, IMO. I never had a A.s. in my collection (which is just as well, I suppose, I would have likely killed it). Another reason for liking A.a. the most, however, is that it was bullet-proof for me.

As many as you like 1tran! Your darlings are beautiful! I have been disappoint about the lack of posts about adeniums lately so please everyone contribute! I had a busy day today and forgot to take my pics, plus the weather was terrible anyway! But tomorrow... sadly I think my second oldest adenium is rotting, its squishy and smells funny, we had a week of beautiful hot spring sun and I watered them twice and now its back to cold weather and this particular lil guy isn't happy. The rest are OK I think... Oh but I managed to let most of them get sunburned that hot week, go me! Oh well learning curve! Thanks for the pics custusmcharris good night :)

Spectacular Desert Roses Marie. I can never be bored looking at all your gorgeous Desert roses ever...not possible! You sure know how to grow them beautifully. I'm so jealous...Thanks for the pictures.

I only have two right now...my big one(picture posted a while back) and a small bonsai one. I do love them though!

I am about to bring them inside when the weather goes down to 35 or lower. The leaves are droping fast, but that is okay. I rather see them naked in the garage. Marie

I forgot to mention I will be receiving a few seedlings( a very kind and generous member gave me a seed pod), a friend is sowing them for me...I should have them in a a month or so. I hope to grow these as bonsai. Wish me luck!

Those are some beautiful specimens. What do you feed them to keep them plump?

I cannot imagine the work involved with them. Still, they're probably less of a problem than, say, tomatoes, but not as tasty. However, they're some powerful eye candy - each one is a living museum piece. That is a mighty fine collection.

Are you ever tempted to grow one 'small' (i.e. like Adenium Randy's plants)?

I loved Randy's plants, but I don't know how to do bonsai type adenium. In 1988 with one small plant I got it as a gift. I started to buy more and more and can't even stop. I love them and they love me back by giving me full head of blooms each year. I hope to have double and triple patel flowers to show you all next year. I had a few seedlings bloom (after 4-5 months) and I also did some experiments with those seedlings. I watched video clips on how to do grafting and hope to try it in April.

So you said they loose their leaves? Is this common because many of us think if they turn yellow and fall off, that something is wrong..

What do you feed them to keep them plump like that?

Are they all grafted like the ones bought in stores, like Home Depot, or from seedlings?

Why are they sold only grafted?

Where is a great place to get some? The only ones I ever see are grafted anywhere around here..

Do the ones not grafted tend to flower more?

I hope you can answer a few of these since I am really considering getting one..I would like to know what to watch for and if it is worth my time here in New England..
I wonder if they go dormant in winter here and one has to starve them of water..

I saw your questions concerning Adeniums in New England and thought I'd answer a couple. :) I live in western new york state (zone 5). I have had one Adenium for two summers now. It has gone dormant every winter; currently it has lost about half of its leaves. I placed my Adenium outside in the spring, once all threat of frost had passed, in a location that received direct morning sun, but was semi-shaded from the harsh afternoon sunlight. It seemed to like this location, as it did bloom, although the blooming was cut short by some cooler mid-summer weather. I brought it inside about three weeks ago, because the weather turned cool and the threat of frost was immanent. It began losing leaves soon after I brought it inside. Last winter, while it was dormant, I watered it about once a month. I had read a variety of conflicting opinions about watering while dormant, and eventually just decided to put it on the same regimen as most of my cacti. Hope this helps!

Well, this in no way compares to the ones I've seen posted here which are gorgeous, but I rescued this little Adenium from walmart about two months ago on clearance. It had one leaf, and a large rotten branch and root that needed to be chopped off. I fixed it up with advice gathered from this forum, and since then it has perked up, added some leaves, AND put out two flower buds, and this morning one of them opened! I'm super excited, so I thought I would share.

Hi Mike, Blueskies answer some of your questions for me. Thank you Blueskies. I lived in Texas and the weather here is hot during summer months. That helps desert rose. They like hot and humid. From October to November the leaves turn yellow and drop, they don't do anything during dormant months. That is normal and less messy in the garage. I snip off most of the leaves before taking them inside anyway. I used Osmocote twice per year and they love Osmocote. The grafted plants usually have more than one colors. But they grow slower than the ones without grafted.

No, the grafted plants don't necessary have more blooms. It just give you 100% sure of the mother plant's color. During winter I only give it very little water to moise (not wet). 6-8 weeks without water is okay.....I hope that helps.

I was and am thrilled by the bloom, I feel like any work I did rescuing it has been fully repaid and then some! It was very fun to read through old adenium posts and get advice on how to fix it up and then do it and be rewarded by the results!

Wandering willow, this is not a blooming season. I am sure by next growing season, you plant will do much better. I remembered this when you got it. It is coming back pretty well and the caudex even getting a little bigger.

I agree with Marie...I bet by next spring you'll have more blooms. Mine has the most flowers in April/May...although with our summer like weather right now, mine still has some blooms...but not nearly as many.

Hi Lady E. It is actually quite large. It just looks small in the picture. Mine all get full sun and I think this is a species that just blooms a lot. It was really amazing.

Thanks Mike! I'll def post an update as it grows and fills out! and you should definitely get one - they seem to be resilient, cooperative, and grateful, as well as beautiful, little plants! Mine seemed on its last legs two months ago, and now it is healthy, happy, and brings a smile to my face every time I see it!

Wow Isaac did you graft them yourself? Amazing! The flowers are just beautiful! And they are all in hyroculture. I've thought of trying one of mine in hydroculture and tried a little aeonium first but it rotted and I love my adeniums too much to risk them. I should really try again.

Mike you should so get one! They are the plant with personality and are definitely my favorite of all the plants I own! Its so exciting to watch them grow and change and then there are the flowers!!! They are super easy to grow from seed too, personally I recommend growing from seed so much more satisfying!

Can I just say RANDYYYYYYY!!!! I miss you!!!!
