I looked into the shed yesterday and had the same feeling after I saw what the brugs looked like.

BUT.........think about the thinks you can be happy about....compared to that....it seems very very small that they don't look so good right now...or we lost some.

As long as we get to keep in our lives...what is most precious to us!!!

You're SOOO right Lucy...I'm SOOO very happy all my kids will be here for Christmas...I'm also hoping and believing I get to see my 8yr old grandson too...That's a WHOLE nother story!!

Don't despair. We lost power for 3 days last winter with temps in the single digits. I thought that I'd lost everything in the greenhouse. I was shocked at the number of plants that returned from the roots when it warmed up. I'd say that about 75% of my plants eventually regrew. The main loss was my orchid collection, about 60 plants. That hurt. I'd had some of them for 15 years and many were varieties that aren't easily replaced. Just make sure that the soil the damaged plants are in remains on the dry side to prevent rot. I'd also wait a few days to see what's actually beyond recovery then cut that part off. You might want to dust some of the damaged stems that were cut with sulfur or some type of fungicide. Good luck. I hope it's not too bad.

I,m so sorry, I sure hope the pull through for you! Maybe since it was just a short time they will be OK!

Brugs and Bananas can pull through 26. The foliage may be lost, but they will rebound with a vengence once things warm up!

Hoping everything pulls through for you. You know everyone here will help you out if we can for anything that is unable to make it. This storm is unbelievable...coast to coast!

Get you a propane heater for emergency back up. I love mine but its costly to use. Wish I had natural gas lines here.

Gee Knotz, looks like everybody got it. I'm excited it's going to get into the 20's tomorrow, we had 17 below last night and a high of like 7 or something today. Ready for this to head off to the midwest (sorry) and bother them. All my plants are inside snug and warm tho. No greenhouse - yet!

I know everyone is getting something "bad" from the weather right now...I just had to "whine".

I went in the greenhouse yesterday afternoon and turned up the heater a bit..It was set to come on at 42* but obviously it was just too cold.

I finally got up enough nerve to look at the temp in there around 8am this morning (it got down to 8* again last night) and the temp was 33*...I was SOOO happy to see that.

We may all be helping each other "restock" our plant supplies after this winter, but I hope we don't have to!!

Caren, I hope everything or most of your plants will recover. Same thing happened here in California. We had 2 nights of freeze and tonight will be the 3rd one but after that the temps will go to 40* at night. I could not cover all my plants. My husband help and cover some. While he was doing it he fell from a 3' wall and I thought he broke his leg. Fortunately he got only scratches. After that I could not ask him to do any more covering.
Let's hope for the best.

Pat I'm glad your DH is alright. I HATE the cold!!!!!! I really would love to be in zone 10 or 11. I'd miss some of the plants I couldn't grow in a tropical zone, like peonies, but I think I'd get over it. lol

I second what Karyn said. Getting hurt by trying to keep our plants alive....is just not worth it. IMHO

Especially not when I see that if one should really loose them....there are to many friends here that jump in and try to replace whatever is possible.

My noid brugs planted in the ground, as someone so accurately described before, all look like "cooked spinach." I also hate the cold (also hate when it's super hot), and wish it was Spring, lol! Going around with frozen fingers, cold nose and ears, etc., is no fun. Really, if I could hibernate this winter, I would.

yeah pat I'm glad you hubbys okay to thats a bummer fallin. Were not kids any more I went skating the other night I felt ridiculous but i had fun. The only thing that kept rolling thru my brain is ma if I fall Im gonna break lololo. Its cold here to Blizzard of 2009) thatÂs what they are calling it here. I have been cheating bad with my sun porch lol I leave the window from my kitchen to the porch open lolol with the heater going out there. I woke up this morning and it was still 40 out there YUK!

Yes , my DH is Ok just scratches and bruises. He wanted to cover a Princess Flower he likes very much. It was dark and he could not see the edge of the wall. When I saw him laying on the ground I was so scared that he broke his leg and I could not help him get up. I was in crouches myself. Thanks God was just minor injuries. Imagine, both of us with leg problems. Not fun at all.
