She posted her question on the Bamboo forum on the 23rd.

There's still no answer over there.

The bamboo grows faster than the responses over there. LOL. . . .she wasn't kidding about getting a response next year.

I told her she got more feedback about Bamboo on the Brug forum than on the Bamboo forum.

This will be my 5th winter to winter sow and have learned to prep early. I've been prepping milk jugs all spring/summer/and now fall for this coming winter. I have 250+ milk jugs and lots of other types of containers ready/prepped so far and will continue doing right through winter. I got laughed at by John just last week when I said I probably had enough milk jugs ready. Also have learned to have lots of potting mix bought and in the basement before winter sets in. Have been slowing buying large bags through the summer when they've been on sale. First year got caught having to try to find some mid winter when I ran out, so make sure you have more than you think you'll need. Also learned to keep inside so it's not frozen from being in garage. I hate having to wait for the potting mix to unthaw. I do mostly perennials. I grow for my yard (running out of space), the yard at the cabin, cabin neighbors yard, both sisters yards, moms yard, and those I sneek plants into around the neighborhood. I've decided I would rather try to have too much ready, if that's possible, so it doesn't become hectic trying to find containers, soil etc, when it's suppose to be a fun time when winter sowing. Also my family doesn't enjoy it when I run around like a mad women trying to find containers, seeds, soil, etc. Sandy

Hey Judi, Welcome y'all! If you haven't guessed, we're in Texas. You will learn, love and laugh in this forum. I just finished priming the trim in our kitchen--not a remodel so much as a redecorating, but work nonetheless. However, a good kitchen usually reflects a good cook, and I'm sure your kitchen is going to be superb! I have a sister in S. Illinois, and we are in back of nowhere ourselves (in fact, we have to drive about 10 miles to get to nowhere) but making do with what you've got is the mark of a great cook. Insurance varies by state -- talk to your insurance company or agent to get the right info. Renter's insurance is typically to insure what the renter has on the property -- their belongings, not yours or the land and structures. Your situation is different from a home with daily living and the risks that come with it (cooking, plumbing, floods, fires, etc.) Contractors are often bonded to cover loss to property they work on. Something like that might be possible for your situation. The dollar amount on the property is negligible -- about $37 per acre. Make sure you know what the taxes are. Typically they would be prorated, so you would normally have 1/4 but would be agreeing to the additional 3/4. Make sure he isn't behind on the taxes or that there aren't other surprises. I think you need to talk to the pros to verify what these costs are. That should make your answer a lot easier. I don't think you can make an intelligent decision without knowing those things first.

Yes, it is rather amusing. No need to apologize for laughter. Odd what some people decide to take so seriously. At least you with kids know that there is a possibility that there will be someone to take care of you in your old age. As I get ready to go over to spend the evening with my MIL (she has terminal cancer so that's probably what got you confused with Bodica's thread) in their house of chaos, I think about what will happen to Hubby and me when we get old. We won't have that and as we are spending all our energy and resources taking care of Mom and Dad and crazy brother, there won't be anything there for us when we need it. Ah well, my fatigue and utter frustration at a crappy, crappy situation that I just found out today is even crappier than it needs to be is making me more morose and bitter than normal. Off to seel more snake oil, I guess. Have a good evening everyone.

LMAO Dweeb, did ya think I was kidding? I was in complete shock when I saw that I actually got a reply 2 days after my post. I expected a couple weeks.
I'm tellin ya, this forum is the best all around..we've got the most awesome generous people..not to mention the smartest! Who wont hesitate to help!

There are posts on the bamboo forum from the 7th - with 4 replies, some from the 19th with 1 reply, 2 replies, 1 reply, 3 replies, etc., etc.

Sorry Wildflower, I WISH I was an expert..I'm still clueless. All I know is I should get Fargesia to meet my needs..thats all I knew from the beginning from the bit of research I did. I wanted further help I just couldnt find, and thought they might help over there.

Well that's some good starter info Daniella!!! I'd like to know what you end up getting... Did a quick search for fargesia and see that those are clumping and not the running type. That's a real good thing. I'm looking for something clumping that has large diameter stalks. Like as big around as a coke can or bigger. But nothing that's the least bit invasive...And if it could handle some shade that would be great too. I have looked at the bamboo forum before but it's been a while. Here's something NOT to do there (no I didn't do it)...ask them about "lucky bamboo". It doesn't go over real well!!

During my research I will let you know if I find anything you may be interested in. But from what I have read so far, the culm diameters on Fargesia dont get any larger than 1"..I think..I may be wrong..you know how it gets when you overload your brain and the info starts bleeding together. If I come across any really good sites with lotsa info, I'll send it to you.

Hey Wildflower: I warned you. lol That "Lucky Bamboo" is not bamboo it is dracena (corn flower) and those people get a leetle bit testy when someone posts there and it doesn't concern the "real" stuff!!! Now here on this forum if someone asks about L Bam. we'd get into the hows and whys of how do you make it twist? LOLx3! That's just the way we are here and don't you just luv it, luv it, luv it?
