Download FireFox and you won't need to put up with such stuff. I never see any of that crap. I have never seen a video commercial on this site and I use FireFox. It's free and much safer than using any version of IE.

I know what you mean. I really wish they would scale back. This is the worst site by far, of any I visit, to be cluttered with ads. It wasn't like this in the beginning, but I suppose thats why Spike had to give it up.

Popup blockers won't kill those, unfortunately.
And they slow down the browsing considerably.

I got the video this morning using Fire Fox. If you right click on video they are using Adobe Flash player 9 to run it. Ther must be a way to block it. If not I will be going away.

The UBC Conifer forum while interesting will put you to sleep with the lack of
many posts. Still might have to gavaitate their for the lack of anything else.

There is a script extension that you can download into FireFox that will allow you to choose which sites can run scripts and which cannot. The ad company is running the script so if you just let GardenWeb run scripts, you won't see those video ads. At least I have not seen any - yet.

You're welcome.

You did see the "S" in the extreme lower right corner of your browser with the red circle and slash through it? Click on the "S" and you will get a list of sites that want to run scripts on your computer. In most cases, you need to let the actual domain (like GardenWeb) run scripts, for the web page to display the content correctly.

This little add-on really helps keep your computer much safer from malicious content.

Actually the ad I complained about was a full-screen video hawking the South Beach Diet. There was no way to turn it off, and it took maybe 30 seconds to complete. I don't see it today.

They usually run it in the morning and evening. Any way it's gone from my computer. That was the worst bit a advertising I have seen. No way to circumvent it.

Half of it's native range in California is in zone 8 (the other half in zone 9); I don't see any problems connected with temperature. Depending on where you are, you might have problems with needlecast diseases if you have hot, humid summers (it is adapted to dry summers, which discourage fungi). It also doesn't like badly-drained soil.

growing in z6.However it grows very well in zone 8

I get very few of these ads filtering in through my browser because of pop-up blockers. Occasionally one of the videos does (these have been going on for months - pretty much since the iVillage acquisition, so surprised you haven't encountered them before now). All of them have a "close" button - that shuts them down promptly, including the South Beach diet ad.

Also if you use the direct click rather than the "back" feature you will avoid most of them.

Another way to easily block macromedia flash from playing on any web page without your permission is to download and install another add-in called Flashblock. There's even an IE tab add-in, so if you go to a web page which is poorly constructed(uses unofficial code that only IE displays correctly) you can easily view it within firefox by right clicking anywhere on the page and selecting the view in IE option. Since I installed this, I never use IE for anything, it's just not as safe as firefox nor as convenient.

I installed treelover's No Script For FireFox and it seems to have worked.

I use Firefox with the No Script ad on also. I never allow GW, and the site works fine for me, (the S always has a full red circle around it). kman, I will add that IE tab onto here so I don't have to ever use IE again, thanks!
