Sweet Lilian...not so sweet right now!
Comments (27)Frank, she's already a beauty, and she's not fully open! Just wait until all the buds open! As I said, it was one of my favorites! Very prolific bloomer... although, all my attempts at pollinating failed. I'll catch it next bloom cycle. Sweet Lilian also proved to be very photogenic! I took the most photos of this particular variety. Viagrow... hahaha! So, what happens if the stem is erect for more than 4 hours? Should you consult a horticulturist? LOL! Larissa, in today's world, you sort of have to help your kids develop a thick skin so they're ready for whatever life throws at them. We're the type of parents that never shielded our kids from the uglier side of life... we were always very open, encouraging them to question the world around them, and to discuss things they weren't sure about. Life is tough... kids need to develop good coping skills! One of our favorite lines was, and still is: Life is full of choices... for every choice there is a consequence... think hard before making your choices! When our kids were teens, our house was the favorite hangout... there were always other kids at our house. They would all come over after school and hang out, play video games, listen to music... my fridge got a ton of mileage! I think we fed the neighborhood! You should hear some of the stories from parties at our house! Our motto was: Don't fall asleep before we do! Oh, the jokes we played on people! Ahh... great memories! Hilarious memories! We never had a lot of money, but we did have a lot of fun! Our kids have some awesome memories to take with them through life... that much is certain!...See MoreMore opening and its hot and humid today
Comments (19)I too have CERISE MASTERPIECE and I live about 45 minutes south of Julia, yet she is one zone warmer by being by a lake, and I have had it for 4 or 5 years and never saw it bloom and it finally bit the dust after this past winter. I had it in a prime spot and it never really took off. David...See MoreThis and That and its hot and humid again
Comments (15)It was 97 at noon today with more to come until Tues/Wednesday when we drop down to the high 80's (Similar to your forecast Julia). I am so sick of the heat and humidity. I was out deadheading the roses last night and cussing them for having bloomed so much....I've still got reblooms on a few daylilies. Indian Ripple, Pink Aloha and a new one this year, Sweeten Creek (note to Debra). When the temperature finally drops the gardeners around here call it "pansy season". That's what I'm looking forward to most right now-Pansy weather...............Maryl - P.S. Monday they say will be in the 105-106 range. Ugh!...See Morejust because it's so handsome-what's looking good for you right now?
Comments (12)We just recently started removing old dead leaves from the base of this Agave Furcraea Macdougalii, but it will be a few more years before it develops much of a trunk. Anyway, it just keeps getting bigger, and it should bloom in another 20 years. Here it is from the other side, which is not back lit:We recently painted the upper part of the house, and so it is no longer white. Here's a photo I took yesterday at Joshua Tree National Park: I used to have a yucca that resembled these, but I do not have any of these plants myself, and so I only visit them....See MoreKathsgrdn
