watering it every day for a week and a half wont hurt it near as much as not watering it for a week and a half.

You could always buy a separate water timer just for it.

Ditto what Mike said, littleluey. Your area of the country is just much to hot for such a young tree to go without water that long.

A timer sounds like a great idea, or maybe someone to house sit. It's just too hot for a little tree, newly planted, to go that long right now!

I decided to run a water line from my veggie bed, that is on a timer. I will get a section of drip hose for this tree and hopefully it would not get too much water. I am putting up a shade for it and mulch like crazy.
I don't have a second water faucet to put a second timer near by, the other one is all the way on the opposite side of the house, so i will require more hose to run the line. I got some dogs that will not let anyone in the back yard if i don't walk in with them so house sitting is not an option.

I was going to ask where in Arizona you are and see if I can help (I'm in Tucson), but not if you have dogs that will eat me! lol...
I can understand how a house sitter would be out of the question. A friend of mine has 2 dogs that way, it took a year and a half before I could go in without her! It's good though, your family is being taken care of. :-)

I don't have any experience with water lines or timers, but you plan sounds good to me.

Hopefully someone with more info will be along.

Down here in Tucson I am drip-irrigating my citrus every other day for 3 hours (they have been in the ground for a year now, except 2 I lost to the f*****). When it gets to below 90 or so I will cut that back to every 2nd day. When they were first in the ground, they were being watered daily when temps were 90 or more.

I live in Yuma, thanks anyway JoJo. Yea my dogs are something else, yesterday they went to the vet and the big one was acting a fool, today they went to get groomed but the groomer called me to tell me they could not do her because she snapped at them she said. So now i have to do it myself, lol.
i just found out my timer is leaking water, so i will have to buy a new one anyway, oh well, such is life.

I was just thinking something. My AC water outlet is dripping about 12 yards from where my tree is, if i can find a way to direct that water to the tree i won't have to do the extra water line. It is coming from the roof of the house so gravity will be my friend here.

Will the AC be on while you're gone?

lol, yes, it will, probably not as cool as i like but it will be on for sure.
