'the texture of a cherimoya fruit'

Now that's a feeling that I would be not many of us have had - first exotic fruit reference of the day. If you get no responses, maybe a clearer pic or two (I've seen that before durian the time I lived down south, but I don't remember the name).

cactus, I'm not sure a clearer pic would really help unless I had something in particular to focus on -- there's not a lot of detail to really focus on.

Okay I found my camera charger.

My best guess so far is E. clava but the leaves are wrong. The stem matches a young clava, from what I can tell, but... Clandestina is also sort of ballpark. Both of those have more pronounced tubercles and leaf scars, though. And different thinner leaves, for that matter.

Did you check it with Euphorbia Frank's site? That's my go-to place to suggest absent any suggestions from the Euphorbiacs here.

E. bubalina is maybe the closest I'm seeing on that site. The leaves still look sort of off, though.
