Wow! Mine do not branch nearly as prolifically as that one did for you! That is pretty amazing!

I was thinking about pruning down a really tall one that I have, but I keep chickening out. We'll see what happens come the growing season. It does continue to flower in my sunroom at this time of year.

Calif8, I will look into the suggestion!
Lots of sun, water, and fertilizer to get this growth. The coarse, gritty potting mix really helps, too.

Tom, this one is branching like mad. The photos don't show all the little growth points emerging
directly from the trunk....which is why I'm thinking about pruning this one down to the level of the first arms.
And the sooner I prune, the smaller the scars....

Could this variety be 'Lemon Drop'?

Very nice,hope it stays yellow.I bought a yellow one a few years ago and over the years it has reverted back to a peachy color.

I also have a red one that has gotten tall and lanky and i've thought about cutting it back,then chickened out,Do you think it's ok/safe to cut it back,and what time of the yeard should i do it??

Hi Kathi,

It's fine to cut it back, will just make the plant grow in more full & lush. I hacked 2 arms off of mine this weekend, I assure you it's just fine. I'm in NYC where it just got cold, this plant won't care what time of year it's cut back, since it seems to stay in growth all year round (for me anyway).

VERY nice. Don't know if it's 'Lemon drop' I have a no ID yellow bloomer which is VERY stingy w/ bloom.

Yet was recently asked to rescue another yellow E. milii which is turning out to be a fast & frequent bloomer. So who knows, hard to say from here.

I really don't know how this one came to be...it was growing at the edge of the pot,
as though a seed had slipped down the side and sprouted from there. I was completely
surprised when I found it.

I'm not sure about pruning these, but I'd probably advise pruning just prior to the most robust
period of growth, to ensure lots of backbudding, branching, and bright compact foliage.

I'll wait until after the bloom to prune mine.

What does your mix consist of? I see no bark at all and what looks like 'perlite', or is that white pumice?

Mike, thanks a lot! I'd appreciate any help in nailing down a definitive identification.
How do you think this little plant came to be in the side of the Jade 'Hobbit' container? Do you
think it was a seed or a piece of another plant that rooted? It was just a single trunk with a long
root when I discovered it, which leads me to believe it grew from seed....but I don't know
much about these.

Great question, Mike ;-)

That mix is Red lava rock, Perlite, and Fir bark.

The pieces average in size between 1/8 and 1/4 inch, with a few pieces that are just a bit larger (3/8).
There is bark, but you can't see it very well because of the extra Red lava rock on the top of the mix.

I think I may have one of these, although mine is in a neglectful state & has not had the chance to grow much.

I ID'd mine a long while ago as Euphorbia didieriodes. You might want to check it out. Also, at least one time, the flower started out a coral color & changed to yellow. Mine has just one branch started.

Here's a general pic where bottom of pic shows this bloom (as detailed below) & the upper part of the shot, w/ very shrubby looking E. milii is the one I said is stingy w/ bloom (which I had thought might be 'Lemon Drop').

This bloom looks white here w/ yellow pollen in center. But after a day or 2 the bloom looks yellow.

I shot pix over wknd showing both old & new bloom but haven't uploaded them yet.

I'll share w/ the group the advice given me about these plants which has made all the difference.

While they ARE succulents, I was advised to grow them, more like tropicals than succulents. That is to say to give them WAYYYY more water than one would usually give to a succulent & more fertilizer too. I also use a humidity tray under them along w/ fast draining mix. Once I started following this advise, I got more blooms, more frequently, especially on my charming little favored E. milii x. moratii (whose pix I love to show, but can't find right now).

There were many seedlings in the area where those plants came from. E millii happens to be a bit of a tramp when it comes to pollination. I would have to surmise that it is an open pollinated b*stard.....

I found some of your pics at Picasa while googling images, but I don't know if this plant
is Euphorbia didieriodes. I appreciate the suggestions and can't wait to learn more.

Hey, Tom, I'm attempting to root a cutting of variegated Euphorbia milii right now,
but I'm not sure if it's going to root. I have it in a coarse mix of perlite, turface, and bark,
and maybe some pumice, too...a mish-mash mix.

Karen, the pics are on the small side and I'm not able to pick up any real detail.
When I look at the 'Lemon Drop' in google image search, I see plants with different looking leaves,
although that could be due to your different growing conditions. The 'Lemon Drop' plants online
seem to have a very dinstinctive yellow bloom.

A couple years ago I noticed that Crown of Thorns seemed to stay active and blooming as long as
they were watered and kept warm. I've been watering and fertilizing consistently and it really
shows in the vitality of this yearling.

Sorry, my pix are smallish, haven't learned pic sizing yet, but am learning the closeup of my camera.

I too have noticed leaves can be different among E. milii, I don't know the relation between them, if it can be as varied as some Hoyas like Carnosa where there's great variability in leaf shape In a single plant. I have a number of different color & leaf shaped milii.

There use to be a fellow named Frank.DE who I recall was into mostly Euphorbias, bigtime. Anybody around who remembers who/where he might be?

Sorry I missed your Question. I root E. miliis pretty readily in fast draining mix, warmish window ledge, best light, humidity trays. I've been trimming a couple of mine & plan to grow the cuttings up to offer to my plant society.

I also root some things in pure pumice & this would seem a good candidate for that. Maybe try one of each & see which works best for you?

Toni, thanks for the suggestions. Eak Wilai doesn't match the cyathia color or shape,
and the leaves don't seem to be a match, either. Definitely not a spurge ;-)
I do grow the "Gopher Plant" Euphorbia in my garden, though.
