Nelly Moser?

Does this look like a Nelly Moser to you? I bought this clematis at Pikes on sale for $5 down from $49 (when it was much taller and on a little trellis). It just bloomed so I am trying to identify it since it did not have a tag.

Thank you for the nice comments. This is a 90 years old tool shed. It faces West and get sun in the afteernoon. Nelly feels very vell there. Isago needs more time to cover the arch. To the right of Mrs. Cholmondeley is a viticella species native to my country. I rooted a cutting a few years ago. It will bloom next month

I've had the same problem you've had with my Lincoln Star. Mine is 3-4 years old, with no problems growing & flowering, but the reddish bar color is very pale, during both 1st & 2nd blooms. I don't think fertilizer is the problem, because all my stock get the same regimen & this is the only problem child. Initially I thought it might be due to the very hot weather here (9a), but this should not affect the 1st bloom. I've layered one branch and thereafter plan to severely prune & move this one into another location. If this doesn't work I will probably try Carnaby, which is similar.

Some plants can vary color some as weather and soil change. I don't grow this clematis, so I don't know if it is possible, though it seems rather extreme. The other possibility is that there is a second plant there. Either there were two clematis in the pot you bought and these blooms are on the second one that isn't NM, or your clematis set seed and seedlings grew close enough to the NM to grow onto the same trellis.

I think that's Nelly. First blooms aren't always the best but I don't see any reason to think it's not Nelly. If you haven't checked here's Nelly at Clematis on the Web.

Even if it isn't, but I think it is, $5 for what must be at least 2 years old if they wanted almost $50 for it, is a great deal. It must have very good roots.

These clematis were previously on trellis in the pots and were cut down and sold at the end of season. I haven't had much luck growing clematis from bare root, so I was waiting for this moment! I have two others that I am waiting to bloom to identify. One is dark pink, but with less petals and the other one has some buds. They have grown quite a bit since I brought them home.

Do you think I should plant them in the fall or wait until spring?
