Dwarf Orange in Pot: Yellow Leaves?

I planted healthy 2-3 yr dwarf orange in a pot earlier this spring. It drains well, is watered regularly, and shows no signs of pests; however, its leaves, starting at the bottom, have yellowed and dropped, and no new growth is evident after three months. This looks serious to me. Can you offer suggestions?

Is the pot too small? By dwarf orange are you referring to a Calamondin? Are you fertilizing? What is the sun exposure?? Not enough info in your posting to really answer this question.

Four Winds 2-3 yr Trovita orange on dwarf rootstock in full sun. 12" pot with 5 one-inch drain holes, drains freely. Redwood chips (20%), sand (50%), perlite (20%), and composted manure (10%) medium. Osmocote upon planting, light Miracle Gro monthly thereafter.

I'm a reasonably good gardener, but this is my first citrus. I'm baffled. Root rot? Should I try fungicide (Immunox)? Excess/deficiency of some mineral?

I'd say just transplant shock, DrBasil. Just keep watering and fertilizing. You should see new flush appearing, shortly. Patty S.

Hi, I have a washington orange tree(dwarf)about 4 feet tall in my backyard and i noticed that half of the branches were dying. It was healthy for a year and all of the sudden this things happened started 2 months ago. Most of the leaves turns yellow and small branches turns to brown. New fruits about 10 mm in size were falling. I watered my tree almost every other day. Applied citrus fertilizer and still not working. How could i keep my tree healthy? Thank you so much.

In my opinion, you may have up to three problems at same time. Too much fertilizer, too much soil moisture and sunburn. If I were you, I would start again with a porous soil (search for "5-1-1 mix"), don't fertilize and no direct sun for a time. When temperatures reach 35º C, move to a cooler site. When you see new growth, you can return to a standard fertlizing schedule and sun light. I recommend starting with half strength of a soluble fertilizer.

I would do what advice most experienced ppl do here, which is check soil way deep down w/ chopstick to see if its still wet near bottom of pot before watering. Yes, I use Miracle Grow feet. In yellow bottle, 1/4 tsp per gallon at EVERY watering, year round. Except for this plant. MIL did not want me to fertilize it, idk why. Your soil is most likely bagged soil, & I never had luck w/ that. I didn't really become good w/ plant keeping until I switched from bagged soils to Al's 511 mix. Look up on here an article called "good growing practices". Idh the link to it handy. Sorry. I'm thinking maybe your plant is root bound.

Hd, With the sand, Perlite and chips, the soil should be well-draining. The only thing that'd worry me is the manure. I've never used manure on tropicals..I've read, unless manure is old (over a year) it 'could' burn roots. I don't know if this is fact or myth. Outdoor mediums used for indoor plants can cause problems..
What about the pot size? I don't buy from 4Winds, so I'm unfamiliar with roots..Is 12" pot appropriate size for your orange? It's not too large?
Is your orange tree kept in or outdoors? Sometimes when plants come from semi-tropical places into our homes, foliage can yellow, drop or both. If it continues, then I'd say there's a problem. Have you checked for insects? Mites/mealy/scale? Toni
