clematis - best ways to climb

Hello All - A month ago I posted a message in the rose forum because i wanted an accent plant to compliment all my rose bushes. Many people suggested clematis. I ordered 3 and they have quietly been establishing themselves next to the roses for the past 3 weeks (growing along a fence). 2 days ago, I suddenly find the most absolutely BEAUTIFUL single flower on my baby Silmakivi. I know it is showing me a small taste of whats to come. I was floored by its picture perfect bloom and vibrant color...now I'm completely addicted. I am about to order 10 more varieties online and plant them against the side of the house and under some trees. My questions for everyone is 1)Does clematis definately need something to twine into, or will they 'attach' themselves to the brick or tree bark? 2)Has anyone found varities that truly bloom all summer long?

Thanks for everyones help!!! I am so glad that this beautiful plant was suggested to me.
