jumpin4joy, come on out and sit in our brug house where when one opens the door the fragrance will hit you smack in the face and knock you over!! There is barely room to turn around and yes they were at one time stacked 3 high!! You want to talk BA, sorry it's not going to help here, we are looking at well over 100+ seeds to start.
Most expensive was B. Snowbank!! I had to have one after seeing the mom plant, but ya know they don't like me??
I just wanted ya to know you are not alone and after 10 years of growing these you would think I would know better?? I will tell you I drove for 2 hours to see one guy's Sangs and about died when I saw them!! Well worth it to find another BA and to share!!

It always make you feel better to know your not the worst in a room LOL.Can you belive my hubby doesnt like the scent of them. Hes out of his mind. He laughed and Said sure (in total ya right attitude) when I said babe you wouldnt mind if I planted the whole front yard in them Would you? Boy is he gonna crap...I went from one varitey about 3 weeks ago to about 18 currently. Ya buddy Momma dont play. The only this is the joke is on me if they dont root. Ouch!!! Ill have to do alotta kiss en up on that one. Thank goodness he cant read the ebay bills. Thankfully some people are to impatient to learn how to use the computer.:)

I was so thrilled to find GW a couple years ago. Before finding these forums there weren't a hell of a lot of people I could talk to about plants without putting them to sleep. lol

PS: I only enjoy the scent of brugs outdoors. The scent makes me nauseous inside but I don't care for the smell of most fragrant plants in a confined space.

Thats a tough question....I think I have probably paid more for a Banana than I have a Brug.. But I guess it would be Miss B Havin.. of course the yr after I bought it the price went down...LOL

Go figure the prices always drop the day after you buy. I did that on ebay and was off what i should have paid by about $8.00, that was a hole nother brug I could have bought.
I agree totally about the talking on here. Everyone else just want to talk about themselves. I say give them a brug and tell them to go talk to it. By the time it blooms they will love to talk about them. Let them have to join a Brugs Anynomus group. LOL I plan to corupt the world one brug at a time...

Not a brug story but close. Definately a nutty one. I had my 14yo daughter jump out the car (I did stop) to pull a seed pod off of a datura.

I bet you just slowed down. lol (just kidding) I'm not pushing potty training because carrying around a big ole diaper bag is great for putting all the seeds and cuttings that I take from local parks and nature centers. What will I use when he's in underpants?

I can just see my poor child 20 years from now sitting with his therapist complaining that he was damaged because of his mother's plant obsession. lol

Just wear pants with deep pockets or carry a big purse, lol. I had to educate the lady at the feed store today about datura. She had one that was full of dried seed pods and pouting over the fact that she wished she could find more of these plants. I said well let me show you what to do and explained how to break open the pods and collect the sees and what do you know plenty more plants. She gave me an aloe vera plant for telling her about it. That was nice of her. I got a devils backbone cutting when I went to the bait store to buy minnows. My husband says good grief do you drag home a plant every time you leave the house for something! If he only knew how many times I almost wrecked the car trying to see what a plant was in someones yard that was blooming and that was before I discovered brugs, lol.

I to am guilty of the Diaper Bag Story... Its sad but true. It came in handy at the Zoo Botanical Gardens. I was being all careful not to be noticed. Secret Agent like and this lady comes over and Just takes her snipers out and wacks me a peace. I could have died. Honestly I just moved on to the next plant. But I should have felt bad I think. LOL

That is juuuuuuuust too funny. . .I don't have kids, so two words. .Cargo Pants! Those gawd awful ugly pants that you can store an entire tackle box AND the fishing pole in. LOL

When I go to the Big Box Store's garden center and they have plants that need to be dead headed I just ask for a bag and if it is alright..LOL they don't give a crap..And the broken stuff.. (I hate that I tripped over that but is it alright if I take it...) Welp!! they don't really care about that either...LOL

I just bought a new laptop bag. I don't really need it for my laptop though...It is for seeds etc. I also shove stuff in dh cargo pants. He is getting as bad as me now. He went to buy something else and came back with passie cuttings and more palm seeds LOL~ those cargo pockets come in handy!! He also ordered some brugs off of ebay to surprise me, but I found out anyway haha. I think he's converted now. Until now he only had a passion for aroids and bananas.
Chena, our hd is so dumb that they had some great foxtail palms labeled as queen palms and I got two 12-14 ft. trees dirt cheap!!!!

Well I do not have any great stories, but DH and I do have a His and Her brug/banana column in our budget. He is as crazy about them as I am. Does that mean that we are Brug addicts also?

If you admit you have a problem You qualify. I love the look of fresh dark dirt as much as I do Over looking the ocean. I figure If you ever call someone just to say Nananan na I got this on Clearance or you talk like you had this life altering event happen and it was argueing with the store about a mislabeled price tag on some hafe dead plant you probably have a problem. I no I have done this more than once or twice. LOL

The traveling clippers, paper towels, bottled water and baggies in my suitcase - when I go out of town....
seeds and clippings from just about everywhere I have ever been.... My poor husbands cringing when we go to a garden spot,,,, telling him to "cover me while I get a piece"
and not just brugs, I'll pinch just about anything..

Pinch it and enjoy. God owns the flowers. There here for us all. Just stay out of my yard those are mine. LOL

Has anyone tried hiding cuttings from outside of the country in thier luggage recently? When we go to Canada we usually drive so it's no big deal to hide stuff in the car. A stop at the botanical gardens in Hamilton is always a must. lol I'd get some really cool stuff from Central America too and never had a problem with customs. I used to hide seeds in books. Cuttings, even whole fruit went into my checked luggage but since 9/11 I've been too scared to try to sneak anything in. For God's sake I was detained at gunpoint at Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands because the spelling of my first name on my airline ticket didn't match my passport! I can't imagine what they'd do if they found some sort of contraband! lol

My aunt, living in Ukraine, is a crazy gardener. Every country she visits, she always brings back cuttings, bulbs and even whole plants in pots and she manages to smuggle them across the borders with no problem at all!
She had been visiting me in summer 2006 - and guess what? I drove her to every big nursery around Toronto and in 2 botanical gardens and in different parks (of course, we were equipped with scissors and cameras to take cuttings and pictures! LOL). When she was going back to Ukraine, her suitcases were loaded with all kinds of plant cuttings, she even hid in her luggage a whole tree!!!!! Well, it was just a small potted ginkgo biloba, but the fact is: when it comes to plants, she is just unstoppable !
I paid her a visit in Ukraine this summer in June - she grows some weird exotics from every country she has ever been: Egypt, Turkey, Italy, even from Paris she brought back not foie gras or French vine - she brought some begonias and petunias! LOL. Well, of course, when I was returning back to Canada, I had some "gifts" from aunt. Some of her bulbs I hid in my videocamera case. Now, imagine my horror, when in the Odessa airport, after my luggage was screened in x-ray machine, a security guy demanded me to open my luggage and show him my camera. Mentally, I was already saying goodbye to $500 fine and to my flight. I turned the suitcase such a way that the lid was blocking his view of what I was doing (thank God, he was not a curious guy :-) ) and promptly fetched a bag of bulbs from the case and re-hid it under the clothes, then handed out my camera case to him. He just checked the case, asked me to turn my camera on and off and let me go. Feeeew, I was relieved. And I learned one important lesson too: never hide the plants in your electronic equipment when travelling abroad, they are subject to screening in the airports! :-)

Enjoyed reading about everyone's adventures/misadventures ;0) but must strike a serious note ... here in CA we have very serious fruit fly infestation effecting economy and people's livlihood. It is a result of folks, not meaning harm, but bringing fruit and various plants into the state. As responsible gardners, we must be aware of the consequences when it's not just one plant or bag of fruit coming in, but many. Thanks for allowing me to interupt -- didn't mean to be a meanie and spoil the party!! lol Gloria

Kinda scary how easy it is to hide plants though!!!!

OMG I am reading this lmao..so nice to see other people so nuts about plants as I am. I do all the same things..with every plant that I see that I like, I dont care where I am..hubby gets embarassed and walks away when i "borrow" cuttings or seeds, lol. He cringes when he sees me getting my supplies ready before we get in the car, lol. Can you believe he thinks I'm nuts? I always tell him I'm saving him money! I have never seen brugs or daturas in real life..you know what I mean, lol. But now that I know what they are..if I ever see them~evil grin~HAHAHA!!!
I admit that this year I recruited my 10 yr old son to be my look-out at a botanical garden, but when he saw how many dif plants I was taking from he hid in the car with dear old dad and wanted no part of it. O well, I'm a mom, I have eyes in the back of my head!
I must admit hubby does take cuttings and seed pods for me from plants he finds in the woods..and he has brought home seed pods before that look like Datura, but I never knew what they were so never bothered really planting them..we'd just throw them in the raspberry patch to see what would happen..and ya know what did happen every time? NOTHING. So who knows what they were.

If you dont have any Brugs. I can front you a cutting of my Dr. Suess. They are a must have.
