I'm going to look into all of them and appreciate hearing about them regardless of if I can grow them or not. flattie, which do you like better A. lasiocarpa var. arizonica or A. concolor? Also, how large has your 'dwarf' and 'blue cloak' (or even the A. lasiocarpa var. arizonica)grown? Since, I already grow Piñon, Opuntia(both KS native and SW natives), Junipers, Oaks(many native to NM and Mexico), and Banana Yucca, I'm sure I'll have no problems with any A. concolor. Apparently A. concolor does well here, even in our clay soils. Other than humidity and rainfall, I'd say my weather generally is quite similar to a lot of NM, so I often have good success with plants I see growing in Albuquerque for example. My biggest problem is that most Abies grow too large for where I can plant them. I noticed a few people around who have bought Abies koreana 'silberlocke' and they look to be doing quite well. The few I've seen for sale locally are a bit on the pricey side($350) because they are already large for the cultivar. I also like to see what other people say is their favorite Fir regardless of whether or not I'll ever attempt to grow their favorite.

Thanks Edwin, they actually list a dark green Abies nordmanniana 'Dahlheim' which though mentioned on the RHS plant database and used by Bluespruce for one of his plants is surely a mistake for 'Berlin-Dahlem'. This was the most compact one, the other specimens seemed to look more like the beginning of spreading forms.

Hi Alex, Your suplier was right, the first name was 'Badenweiler' which was later on renamed in 'Schwarzwald'. I still don't know for what reason he did this, I'll ask him the next time I'll see him. I see 'Badenweiler' as it's temporary name, the place were he found this broom. Badenweiler is a little town in the Schwarzwald area, it's situated in western Germany very close to the French border. I'm very glad that your suplier told you some extra info about this nice witches' broom, for most of them it's just a money thing... Good luck with your nice specimen!

No problem Ronald, sorry for promoting the Rare Fruit Society of the Philippines, rare fruit collecting is kinda new to the Philippines. Hoping we could replicate CRFG and RFCI here. And be affiliated with them in the future. Anyway, the only difference of seedless sugarapple with the green, purple, and red varieties is its seedless, if Iam not mistaken this was developed through a budsport of a regular green sugar apple and from there on it was propagated. The thing I like about the seedless variety is though its somewhat deformed in appearance, I like the thought of eating sugar apple without removing the seeds. I could like eat 10-20 sugar apples because I dont get tired of removing the seeds. Ronald, we grow Lanzones (Langsat), Mangosteen, Rambutan, Durian, and many other tropical fruits in the Philippines. Most of this ultra tropical fruits are grown in the southern part of the Philippines called Mindanao. Mindanao is a tropical paradise because you can plant any tropical fruits without being bothered because its a typhoon free area. And rain is well distributed. Most of the commercial Durian, Mangosteen, Rambutan, Langsat orchards are located here and being brought in the urban cities or being exported. From us in the Northern Philippines, Iam specifically from Central Luzon, same climate and weather pattern of Central Thailand which ironically grows commercial sugar apple or as what they call it Noina. Which only means we have a summer and rainy season. Great area for growing mango, cashew, sweet tamarind, sugar apple, dragon fruit, Jujube, Wax Apple, Guapple (big guava varieties), Jackfruit, Avocado, Sapodilla and other sun loving fruit trees. In my province though, Langsat is already naturalized meaning it has been already acclimatized and has already adjusted with the summer season and when rain comes they flower and fruit (very sweet). Right now, Iam planting the Longkong Lanzones, considered the best of the Langsat varieties and can sometime beat Mangosteen as being one of the best tropical fruits around. Also Rambutan is also naturalized here. Talking about Mangosteens, Iam propagating this right now because Iam going to plant it in my dads Coconut farm which is very good because coconuts provide shade for mangosteens. Iam not really a Durian fan, but in my province its hard to plant because the soil is too sandy and roots tend to heat up and kill the roots.
