Getting Picea grafts rooted

Did anyone try this? I have read some studies on Tsuga heterophylla, Pseudotsuga M. var Vir and Pic Sitchensis. The latter was put in a standard peat periculite mix.

Hormones like IBA did not have any effect. And after 6 weeks roots were developed.

But this was in a controlled environment. I think for Picea especially it is not easy to get it rooted.

Anyone having done this at home with succes and what did you do??

Another possibility I came up with was grafting a Picea species (Martinezii) twig onto a Picea abies as low as possible. Let it grow and than put it into soil in order to get Picea Martinezii roots. Cut it loose and have a tree completely on its own. is this possible.

How deep do you cut into the tree that receives the scionswood?

Thanks!
