please help!!! lemon.lime tree fruit growing very slowly

I live in Charleston SC and my mom gave me her two undetermined citrus trees. She thinks they are lemons...but when they fruited for her in Alabama the never got yellow, needless to say...I dont know what they are. ANYWAYS, they are growing new limbs and leaves...one of the trees was covered in flowers in the fall...the other was minimal and now they both have lemon/lime berries on them. Now, Im not sure if I am impatient but they started small and remained pea sized for a month...now they are the size of key limes (hard as rocks) and have been this way for about a month. What is going on! THey arent falling off, nothing looks brown or dying...in fact, the trees are growing insanely else where.

What have I done wrong? AM I watering too much?...I do about 1 gall each plant in the morning, same in the afternoon and then 2 gall each at night. It gets very hot here and i feel like they are dry as bones if I dont constantly water.

PLEASE HELP !

Watering 3 times per day is... odd. Unless they are seriously root bound that shouldn't be necessary.

Anyway, I am not sure there is really a problem, citrus tend to develop s-l-o-w-l-y. If they flower in the winter expect fruit to form in the spring, grow in the summer and ripen in the fall/winter. Some may be a bit faster, but they take their sweet time, even the ones that are sour ;)

I think you just need to be patient. You say you've noticed some root growth. (The roots look perfectly healthy to me.) Often, when you pot up a plant, it will devote its energy to growing a larger root system first, before putting out new top growth. Once your plant has filled most of the pots with roots, it will probably start growing leaves at a quicker pace. My Lemon Lime Dracaena grew very quickly. My secret? I left it in its old pot until the plant outgrew it completely before potting up.

I'm thinking Cherimoya. They are grown in Spain South of Granada in the Costa Tropical which has a unique micro climate. Google some images of the fruit and ask your friend if that's it.

I would switch to a more appropriate fertilizer. This particular fertilizer is very high in N, and nearly all from a Urea N source. You're seeing biuret build up and burn. Most container citrus folks on the list have found that Dyna Gro Foliage Pro fertilizer does an excellent job without burn, and with a better NPK ratio (and better N source). Also, you may want to consider a different potting medium as well. If you search for "511 mix", you will find a great recipe for an indoor citrus potting medium. Citrus do not need an acidic environment - not sure how this misconception started and continues to circulate. Citrus actually prefer a rather neutral environment. If you tap water is extremely alkaline, you can consider acidifying it with a little vinegar, but citrus do not need fertilizers designed for "acid-loving plants", as they do not fall into that category. Right now the fruit is very sour, but refreshing, I am going to wait until the fall, see if the fruit ripens any sweeter, and if not, regraft it. It's a fairly old tree at 10+ years, and don't want to completely destroy it since it produces so much. I think it's white pomello but it's not very sweet yet. anyone grown Pomello? My initial other thought was giant Key lime.. until they got so big.
