Drat! I hit submit too fast!
The highs are still going to be in the upper 50's and 60's here for awhile with an occasional 70 here and there... I wonder if I can cover one of my largest jades and Hummels Sunset with a blanket at night and uncover during the day for another week or so? That still won't help me much but I'd love to leave a few of the jades out awhile longer.
What do you think?

Most cacti do not need a sunny position in winter, if kept cold and dry ...

No, it's not forecast for And then I have to get the garden trowel out and dig up a few C. ovata cuttings and some Agaves that were put into the ground and must be rescued before the cruel clutches of winter visit havoc on them...or something like that.

Good luck to all of you that have to bring plants inside. I feel really bad that you guys have to do it SO soon already! Not rubbing it in...I sincerely wish I can send you guys some of our warmth and sun. Gosh knows we have way too much of it and would love to share.

FWIW, when I was trying to color up my Jades last year, I placed them outside right up against a south facing wall during nights that dipped in the low 30's(Jan. and Feb.) for a few hours. I covered them with a lightweight blanket and they fared well, no damage. But I didn't chance it when it was forecasted to be below 30ð, I brought them inside...I didn't want to risk any freeze damage at those temps. But its your call...if you don't feel good about it...I wouldn't take the risk.

"Jades" can stay out if kept dry, very dry. I have been posting here several ways to make tempory housing for them, to protect against the rain and wind. I have posted this every year. Put a leaning piece of glass over them, like an old sliding door. Put in a dry spot under shelter and wrap with newspaper. I have put up a wood frame and drapped 8 ply plastic over it then where it touched the ground but bricks or rocks to hold it down. plastic siding if it is available. There are many more ways to make a temp. shelter for the plants. Dr.Barard has his all dug up and brought into the garage or his greenhouse, and my friends in canada near Green Lake takes them out of the soil and wrappes them in newspaper. Perhaps, one of these ideas may be useful to you as well. Norma

Or even build posts out of bricks construction bricks, 4 posts will hold up plywood, plastic 2 ply wall I piece of plastic held on by other bricks on the four posts. Or you can make a panel construction shaped in a triangle made of wood in the ground an then us oil cloth or rugs pieces too form a V shelter 2 sides are covered. Or use tomato cages, and cover them put the plant inside. Put the C. ovata next to a wall, not a North wall , but a west or South wall. Norma

good luck ya'll. Like Pug I usually don't have to bring stuff in or at least not for long. Last winters freeze though killed things that were 20++ years old.
