Thank you, those are the ones. I guess I got mixed up from having looked at too many new (to me) varieties of all different kinds of flowers.

Those are gorgeous. Does it do well in part shade? That is what I need to know. I'm posting the link for where I first found it.

If it will grow and flower well in part shade, do you know a source for purchasing one besides the link I posted? Also can they be fall planted or do I have to wait until spring?

I have bought mine from Bluestone (second link). It was Donahue's clematis, actually. Small but healthy plant. I think if you will by it now, it will be mature enough to plant it this fall. You can also by larger (and more expensive, of course).

Thanks, Alina. I noticed you are in CA so I don't know if I can expect mine to do as well as yours which are gorgeous. Do you have a different variety of white mixed with yours or are those just immature blooms?

The lilies are crooked (which is disappointing) but many look very healthy, just might get a bloom or two before the season is over. Some have grown about a foot with lush green foliage, a couple don't look so good. I hope I don't have to move them and that they are just crooked because they got a crooked start from the packaging. I'm not too worried because if just a few get a good start, the bulbs should divide and fill up the spot, maybe?

I'm itchin' to get some stargazers but was going to wait until fall. Maybe if I got a clematis now, if it doesn't come in a pot, I could pot it up until it gets more growth as the area I want to put it in needs cleared, one old rose is pretty thick but it's a smallish area and I need to finish my trellis first.

I appreciate the links. I didn't price it at the link I gave, but that place looks expensive. Maybe I should buy two or three to ensure one will grow. Is that too many to plant to climb door trellis?

I like to find one grown in a more northerly climate if possible, so I'll check out all your links. I have ordered from Parks before but they are in the south which could mean the plants would get a climate shock once the cold and freezing weather hits in my zone.

clematis_not_bombs is in CA, not me :-) And her AQs are gorgeous indeed. I am in MD/7b.

Alina, I'm sorry I got you and c not bombs mixed up, have trouble keeping peoples' screen names and messages straight.

Bluestone in Ohio would be good as they are north if they grow there, presume they do. I suspect some places drop ship or have suppliers from southern growers but just a hunch because the things I ordered from arborday.org which is in NE were shipped from Morrison, TN (still have box) which is milder than where I am in IA.

I just got my Victorian door back from the hardware store I'm making into a trellis. I'm fussy, and there is going to be so much work on that, I'd better not order until it is almost done :-(. I mean holes to fill, nails to pull, sanding both sides, cobwebby stuff to clean off, then paint and staple the hardware cloth and get the stakes on right. Sure wish I had someone to help.

I won't go into ALL the troubles I'm having with my stepladder project, that is going to be a lot of work to complete, too. The slats for the tray were gone so I cut two and couldn't figure out how to nail them on because there is nothing stable underneath the arms that drop to pound right. So I took it to the hardware store. They didn't charge me, nailed them on, but it wouldn't close up, turns out I cut the slats too long, so I took them back off and recut them twice, then glued them on for a trial run. When I tried to close it, they fell off. I will have to pinch the arms together just so and nail the slats on so it will close right and not scuff the paint any more than I can help.

Anyway, I'll bet you could grow a clematis on a stepladder, too, but I want to use that for something else.

The shade issue is not resolved. c not bomb's look like they are part sun part shade, but it's hard to tell from a photo.

The description says it tolerates part shade. Sorry, cannot tell from my personal experience as my AQ is just a baby yet. Maybe this will help a little:

Bluestone says full sun mostly sunny. It probably grows faster and blooms better in full sun.

There's a thread about clematis in shade. Maybe I'd better look at that. Maybe I could try it and see what happens or plant another one with it that is known to tolerate only a few hours of sun that can take over if this doesn't pan out. I'm the kind of person who gets my heart set on a particular thing.

At least I don't have to plant it until fall, but like everything else sought after, probably better to get it before they run out, if this place does. $8.95 is not a bad price.

Sorry I didn't do the homework; I could have. Sometimes I just like input from people who have experiences with various plants.

I bought my Arctic Queen from HD. It was unmarked and without flowers. I put in in a bigger pot and was stunned with the flowers and the amount of flowering. I planted it in the ground late that summer. The next year it wilted, but came up this year. I still don't have it in the right spot, it has a southern position against a fence with no shade. It's too hot, the flowers fade very fast, and the petals don't have the same green tinge that they had when it was growing in the pot with some afternoon shade.

I have my Arctic Queen facing south and she gets 5 hours of sun.the small white flower you see is a clematis called Manchurica I use it too shade and add depth to some of my clematis.Arctic Queen is a good strong grower.

I think I will go ahead and try the AQ. It sure looks pretty growing in CA with that other clematis. I looked for a nice purple or deep blue for part sun, and there were a couple pretty ones, but the most stunning is the old jackmani (sp?) and it wasn't on the list. A lot of people grow that around here and it makes quite a show. Maybe I'll try to find a way to grow both but not in the same spot.

I don't have a whole lot of room in my yard unless I dig it all up, so I will have to pick and choose carefully.
