Give them lots of sun light, both in the summer and the winter, a great fertilizer, and good fast draining soil that will not compact over time. If you are not sure on the watering part, invest in a good water meter, and only water when they are almost dry. That little device saved me a many plant until I learned to make a great soil by Al. Of course, if you have them in a fast draining, well airated soil, no worries. You can water and water until your heart is content, and the water will just drain right out of your pots!!lol Remember,getting them in spring and growing them outside, that is the easy part. But come fall, if your up for the challenge, it can be a bit trickier, and experience will make it alot easier thanks to the friends on this site and their help!! Hello everyone, Still at it.. my trees stayed out all winter and started with a bang first of spring and have now stopped a bit. All have set fruit. My meyer has a lot of big fruit and was using up water fast even with our bay climate . It was still in its original nursery container which drained fast so I decided to pot up. I used a 5;1;1 mix as the gritty mix is just too heavy when you get up in pot sizes. The root ball of the meyer was very tight. I did not want to totally bare root it as I felt it would disturb the fruit and tree too much so I opened it a bit and washed as much old soil off with water and left the rest and hope the roots will move/grow into the new mix. I have had it in only morning sun for a week now and will move it to the sun now. It has shown no signs of shock and looks healthy. I hope I did the right thing. As for potting up I am still confused as to the many citrus I have seen in big pots here and especially in Italy that stay in the same pot for 20+ years. As my trees get big enough to be potted up to the nice terracotta pots they are now nested in I would like to eventually stop. I will keep you posted. One thing many have all been doing is spraying with either neem, horticultural oil (HO) or fish emulsion (I use a combination of neem and HO) before bringing them in to red our trees of pests before they come indoors and those pests become more of an issue. Where do you live? Many of us also do not fertilize in the winter to keep the tree from growing weak growths that are more susceptible to those pests. Keep in mind that during winter, you will not need to water as often. What do you have your trees potted in?

Your welcome..I don't understand why more people didn't bother looking at this thread..It could of prevent a host of questions and problems for them..Oh well. Sammers, I just use plain ole white vinegar but I think some use the apple cider one too. Mike
