Kinda OT:Was I out of line?

Can I just say that everyone here is SOOOOO much nicer than on some of the other forums. I have been trying to find Hoya, so I went on the Hoya forum, introduced myself and asked if anyone would want to trade some cuttings or plants with me. They said, "not be be rude, but go to the exchange, not here" I can understand that people get upset when others go jumping from forum to forum trying to get free plants, but everyone starts somewhere and I explained that I did want to trade, not just get.

That's it! I'm going to get totally into Hoya and name my own awesome variety and NEVER post on that forum or sell to any of them. Take That. JK.

OK I vented, I'm done now. I also would like to thank every one for being so open and kind spirited to me even when I just had one Brug and knew nothing about it and posted silly questions.

There are other forums that I won't mention by name but if you've been there you know which ones they are, that totally go by the book and want everything filed in a neat and orderly way. Exchanges in exchanges. Photos in photos. Discussion in Discussion. And NO off topic discussion. Some forums never offer anything for postage and aren't interested in trading with others. There are also those who consider themselves experts and don't want to talk to newbies at all and questions rarely if ever get answered. No, not everyone is as nice as the brug forum. My 2 favorites for nice folks are the brug forum and wintersowing forum which is nicknamed the "warm and fuzzy forum". Sorry you had such a bad experience, but I sure understand -- been there. Hugs from me!

Lol sorry you had a bad trip/experience over there:( Vent all you want! Hoyas are kinda cool in that you can grow them in baskets like the epiphyllum and some are fragrant!! Hmmm, maybe I will join you in collecting them too lol. Perhaps we should go to the hoya forum and ask a lot of dumb newbie questions..or start a thread and only talk to each other LMAO-just kidding!!
I only have one hoya right now and its some little common variegated I dont know what -but it's pretty! I've seen a few diff ones around here that I could pick up...

That is a big blank slate! The deck is really nice! Some of the designers here will come up with some cool plans for you. A big shade tree to shade the house is important. Whatever shade tree you pick, do your research. Be sure it doesn't drop flowers and pods all year in addition to the autumn leaves. One of the previous owners of our home, in his wisdom, planted 3 pines and 2 palms near our pool. They are evergreen, but they still have little gifts to drop into our pool constantly! Currently all the pollen from the cones is going in the pool. Needles shed constantly. Then the palms start dropping seeds and pollen and random fronds. I don't think you can escape a mess in your pool. It's the nature of trees to reproduce, but some are much kinder to you than others. I think raised beds would be nice and also some walking paths to small areas of interest here and there would break up the expanse. Maybe some curves and circles? Have fun! Suzi

I've taken some classes at the local Community College, since they transfer to my current 4 year school and are much cheaper and closer to home. While the classes themselves have been wonderful - great professors, good texts, lots of support, great schedule, dealing with the administrative process is a NIGHTMARE. Seriously, no one in administration ever picks up a phone or returns a phone call or email. Ever. Even when I go there in person, unless you get the rare staff member who knows what they're doing, there's a good chance something will be screwed up. I just sent in a letter to try and get transcripts sent somewhere and I'm sending all the positive thoughts I can that this will go smoothly. I may double order, just in case. Even the information desk staff is rude and grumpy. At the 4 year school in which I'm also enrolled, staff is a dream. Very helpful, kind and completely competent. I've also taken online courses, one from a school in Utah - Weber State University. It was a biochem class with lab and it was outstanding. Great class, and while the registration process took a little navigating, it ended up fine. Thankfully, I'm almost done with this process. So, yes, I feel your pain. In a big, big way. AM

Yes, situations as have experienced happen all the time, with friends, relatives, coworkers, and recently in various internet forums. People can be inconsiderate, nasty and mean. You do get the feeling that graciousness and courtesy have gone out of style. When that happens to me, while it annoys me to no end because I am only human, but still I try to look at things this way: When stressful situations as you have described happen, it could be: Your friend might not be socially cultured in just that one aspect of behavior, but otherwise completely normal, or your friend could be an inconsiderate SOB on purpose in all manners. You will have to the only one to make a decision to cultivate your friendship further or not, because there are so many other factors in friendship maintenance. However, not to disagree with you, it can also be a matter of perception. I remember in General Psychology 101, there was a topic, which I canÃ¢ÂÂt remember the technical name for. If you are waiting for a bus on a two ways street which also has a bus stop going the other way. You will always feel that there are always more buses coming from the opposite direction. As humans, we seem to remember adversity more than good times. Off-topic?: There is a couple, good friends, who I try not to invite to my parties. Each time they come, they would come with may be a variety of 7, 8, or a doz. bottles of very expensive wines. That always turns my parties into more of a wine tasting theme party. dcarch

Ryan, Dangit, I screwed up. Estimate #1 IS for R410 equipment. Sorry about that. I knew that post was too long for me to not have any errors. lol I proofread it several times also! #2 is for R22 #3 is also for R410 As far as installs go, I assume this one to be very simple. It's in the garage with easy access. You are correct, #1 just seemed much more concerned about that whole job. He was also very respectful of my home by removing his shoes before walking on our new hardwoods and carpet. (I did not ask him to remove his shoes.) I am leaning heavily towards #1. Hopefully he will be willing to work with me on the price some. I just want to be fair for all involved. Thanks, Bill

I was much too timid to ask for anything, when I came to this forum. I was reluctant to ask, even when things were offered to the other members. I still am! Don't like to be greedy. Now I have 21 Brugs, plus other goodies, from kind people who contacted me, wanting to share the wealth. I barely even visit the Plumeria forum, which is where I started out, because this is such a friendly place. Heck... I can show you guys my Plumeria! I guess its just the perfect mix of people here.

It is the best place on earth for me to go when I want to relax, laugh and sadly cry and worry way to much lately. but that comes with it if you care deeply for the people you call your friends and family on this forum.

Bri, I feel your pain, been there too!!!! What I really hate is someone tells you to search for an old topic because they don't want to answer your question and when you search you find a 3yo thread and the people that were on the old thread are no longer around so you can't ask questions.

We are very informal here & just welcome everyone into our brug family, we also hope they will have something good to share (grin). Newbies are a good way to get rid of all the extras that you just can't bear to toss.

Oh Bri...I empathize with you. I agree with SJN...ha ha ha

There was a forum that I frequented also for some time. When my greenhouse was finished I added many plants and began posting. I had 2 posts that sat with NO responses for over a month while some dumb arse who I know has been on that forum for quite some time takes a picture of the roots of a tree and says, gosh look at this isn't it huge...I found it in a park and it had pages of replies, while mine sat with no responses. I guess I lived to far north to be in there click. Needless to say, I stopped posting on that forum and read only to learn more about the tropical plants that are not common around here.

Then I happened on to this forum as I had one NOID brug for 2 years with no blooms. I was SO impressed with how friendly and how genuinely concerned everyone is about each other I decided this was where I was going to plant my feet and hang around until I'm cast out. he he. I REALLY appreciate the camaraderie, the off topic post allowing every one to get to know each other better rather than the ridgid, clickish groups. I like how people call one another and personally email each other. I love it here and feel as though I can post anything. Thank you all for that.

I've been with GardenWeb for awhile and have never received or traded with anyone...just did not feel comfortable and as Bob stated a bit shy. After reading here I realized you all are sincere in getting others addicted to brugs. I hope and pray my cuttings take off so that I can send some out next Fall also. AND....I want to trade for more. he he he...I already have others on my mind that I want.

LOL..SJN I have lots of stupid questions.. I could meet ya'll.there...LOL I went on one froum they were just to Rowdy for me..LOL (snoozers) and the other this BH sent me a rude email telling me I was taking up valuble space on the board.. and I should try a different Forum..He made me laugh and I did stick around over there for a while just to aggravate him .. til I got bored with it...LOL The
T to T folks are great .. I don't go there much any more but they were always nice.. Not nearly as Fun as we are tho.. If you are ever looking for anything .. anyone.. Ask Here First.. Ya never know.. Bri we are very Happy you found this place.. All of ya'll..

Some other forums are just rude. I posted on others some and just got ignored mostly. I was so happy to find this forum and even though its for brugs everyone and all plants are loved, lol. I love all of you guys on here.

Bri, you were definitely not out of line. I checked their "Exchanges" forum. It doesn't appear to be used very much. I doubt that anyone even checks it very often.

How in the world would one get a response posting on what appears to be a dead Exchange forum??????

Bob, I used to plumie too, but it got a little too analytical for me. I do sneak a peak at pics, but don't post anymore. I don't mean to "bash" different forums, I think what I mean to say is that I just appreciate you guys. ALOT! And I think everyone makes newbies feel very welcome here.

You both go to the forum on MPG *Maui Plumeria Gardens* - correct? They are VERY friendly also--they welcome newbies with open arms. Many of the members there migrated from the plumeria forum here on GadenWeb many moons ago when some egos clashed. Anyway...The one thing they (MPG) have, that this forum doesn't, is a signature for each member. That way we can see everyone's first names after a post--other than just seeing everyone's user name that is rarely their first name. But I must say, I have around GardenWeb since it's inception years ago--it has come a long way...

Now guys, about that hoya--that is one plant I have never grown! MMMmmm...

Yes, the brugmansia forum is a 'nice place to hang one's hat'!!!

Well, to be honest? I didn't go to the exchange this year, I came to the threads, the people I have been with.

I wanted to give to the people who participate in the forum, not just anyone.

I was able to send out 11 boxes to people who I see here and know they participate.

THAT is the best part.

So crabby on the other boards huh? Danella (I think) went to the weed forum once trying to get an ID of something, and it was 2 weeks before she could even get a RESPONSE. (ha!)

She brought the picture HERE, and got an immediate id, I think from Karyn or Chena.

this forum is ALWAYS hoppin. Ever look at the repsonses on some of the others? Versus the number of responses here?

This is a COMMUNITY also, not just a board.

That weed forum or something, I was gonna post a picture of creeping charlie and ask them "Anyone know how to propogate this?"

Or post "Where can I find some kudzu?"

It is funny how different some of the forums are. I lurk a lot in several forums, mainly because I don't have better answers to the questions being asked. A couple I wouldn't DARE ask a question there. I think most of the forums are really great, but some not used much. A few are just downright nasty. I hope the people on those stay there & just keep the nasty between them. I think they must enjoy it, really good at it.
Even though I'm mostly a lurker, I like this forum a lot.

Donnnnnnnnnnnnn't lurk. Join in. That is the ONLY way to get your answers. And as I said, this is way more than a forum, it is like a community. I miss everyone greatly when I can't be here.

I lurked here for, I think, 2 months, scanning and searching the board.

I eventually ASKED and got some wonderful answers. Found out I had been feeding the brugs the tomato MG. makes sense right? Same family?

WRONG. The leaves were twisted, distorted, had a third eye in the middle, all kinds of stuff.

These guys immediately identified the problem.

They are wonderful. The oohing, the ahhhing, then, for me, came the mites, and the screaming and the tantrums (grin)

Jump in and hang! You won't find a nicer group of people out there.

I even remember asking about my mush yuck beany ball seed pod on one of my dats that the construction guys mangled. (grin) Karyn answered that one for me. (grin)

Bri, so glad you found your way 'home'! Every time I get on the computer, first I check my emails, then I come straight here to get my daily fix, then I venture to a couple of the other forums, then before logging off, I come back here again, LOL! There were a couple of people that complained about OTs that we posted, but they were quickly informed about this being a family forum, so enjoy it or go to some other restricted site, LOL! There's a place for everyone; I'm just happy we all found our place here!!
