I agree. Those that move across the screen or that flash to get my attention are especially obnoxious, and I suggest boycotting the advertisers.

Down load Mozilla Firefox with Adblock Plus and all that stuff will go away.

Incidentally, I saw a study showing that annoying pop-up ads -- or the ones that take up the whole screen before you get to access a website -- actually build negative brand equity.

Apparently, people must associate the brand with "being annoying" and "getting in the way."

I cannot resist saying the phrase "building negative brand equity" is one of the most meaningless, corporate doubletalk, quasi-special-ed type phrases I've heard to date. It enforces my opinion that no real scholarship is done in 'business schools'. And whatever purported scholar authored said study is more likely to toss his own feces than to say something meaningful. How does one build negative equity? That doesn't even make sense. But I digress......

If you mean it makes you not want to buy the crap I agree. I will never buy honey oat cheerios. They can shove them into their greedy capitalist orifices. But saying things like "building negative equity", that's coined by people who want to sound like they know something....but who were actually strangled by their mother's placenta.

My guess, averbisadverbera knows that one of them disables them, but doesn't know whether it is the firewall, or the virus software, that is doing it. I'm in much the same situation, I don't see the ads, but I'm not really sure which of the various ad blocking things I've got is the one that is actually doing the stopping.

I never see the ads. I use my hosts file to block most ads. You can find free hosts files online that already have most ad sites blocked. Several of those popup blockers work well also. Although personally I stay away from google or yahoo popup blockers since they do some other things without explicit user knowledge or permission.

Another tip (for internet explorer): click on 'Tools', select 'Manage Add-ons', and disable 'Shockwave Flash Object' from Macromedia, Inc.

That should stop many of those really annoying moving things.
