Annoying Ads at top of my inbox

What next? I have the Ad blocker, but now there is a violet-highlighted 'paid message' appearing at the top of my email, *as* mail.

I get those as well.

Click on AdBlock and click Block an ad.
Then click on the ad and drag the bar until the ad is blocked.

What email service do you use? I've not seen any in hotmail.

I am not a computer geek so my knowledge on this subject is limited. I downloaded the free Yahoo Toolbar last year. It has a zapper on it that makes a noise when it blocks an ad - reminds me of a flyswatter killing flies. It does a good job. What is really annoying is the ads that cover up what you are reading. You have to sit there and let it go through its thing because there is no x box to kill it. I have found this mainly on newspaper sites. The Yahoo zapper doesn't kill those. I call them popovers! The forum is so slooooooooow to come up under iVillage. Also, it frequently 'forgets' me and I have to log in again. Sometimes I have to wade through all those things I never use like my page, my want list, etc. before I can get to the actual forum. I agree that Spike did a better job. Walter Moores

Ads 'Jumping' - so Annoyed!

No fears - I'm not paying anyone anymore. I'll definitely try the AdBlock though. Actually, I should have been more specific in my complaints. It isn't really the ads, it's the links on the bottom of the page right below the reply box. If you scroll down, right below the 'Preview Message' button, there are some links to Ads by Google, to GardenWeb, or to other sites. It's not really that these links move, but more that the space at the top shrinks, thereby shortening the page and moving those links into the space formerly occupied by the Preview button. Probably trash on my computer, sine it's slowed down a fair amount recently... I'll have to run my spyware software to see what's up.

No, no FKB problems. But, I think I know what your problem may be since I occasionally had this problem until I figured it out! Be sure your browser window is wide enough to fit the kitchen that's currently being displayed. Try expanding your browser window so it's wider....that should bring the kitchen to the top. BTW...the font issue others are talking about...have not experience this at all in either version of Firefox that I'm using.... I do have AdBlock Plus on both machines and I did update it, at least on my home machine (3.0.11) recently...sometime this past weekend. I don't remember updating my work machine yet (3.0.12).

Yahoo maybe?

I see something as you describe on my Yahoo inbox page. I couldn't confuse it with a message - the line has a purple tint, the box is taller those containing individual messages, it says "Sponsored", and there's an image at the margin of the column. I've ignored it.

If it bothers you, switch to Gmail, no visible ads (yet).

Snidely hit the nail on the head. They are "sponsored" ads on Yahoo. At least mine are.

Easily removed with AdBlock. I get an ad about every 2 weeks.

Yes, it's Yahoo. Thanks for the instructions on blocking, using Ad Blocker. I'll try that next time one of these appears in my email.

I was trying to do what you said, but I didn't have "block an ad". So I looked at the settings and there was a box that said, allow some ads. It was checked. I unchecked it and the "non-intrusive" ad went away.

I checked my AdBlock and I don't have anything about allowing some ads.

Sue, When you see a sponsored ad, just click on AdBlock and click "Block an ad on this page" and go from there.

Mine doesn't have "block an ad on this page"?

For anyone else who might not have it: Click on the AdBlock icon in your lower right hand corner, click on settings, and unclick the box next to "Allow some non-intrusive advertising".

I'd swear I have the most recent version of AdBlock, but maybe that's why I don't have block an ad on this page? Who knows.
