Need Help on transplanting my mature Meyer!

Hi all. I have read everything on this subject, but I still am in need of advice with moving my Meyer. It is about 4 years old and is now in a 3 ft. deep flower bed with top quality soil. I guess its a tree, but you have to lift up foliage to see trunk. It has southern exposure and gets sun most of the day, but not late, hot afternoon sun. It is about 5 1/2 feet tall and 6 ft. wide. It has about 15+ lemons on it now (small and green) and a ton of blossoms. Also, has alot of new growth.

Questions:

Is this an okay time to move it? If I have to wait, I can, but prefer not to, as I want to plant Tree roses in its place. The place I would like to move it to would be to the front of the house, where it will get north exposure, with all day sun, but morning and afternoon filtered sun. The new area has clay-like soil.

Should I amend soil at all?

Should I prune it?

Is a tree this age and doing well very vulnerable now for moving?

I love this tree and would absolutely hate to lose it.

You experts out there, what is your advice?

Thank-you so much in advance for your input.

Teresa
