Hi I'm a rookie with jades, I live in minnesota so my jade is indoors all winter until free of frost, and then it goes outside and the first time I put it outside it got sun burned and it looked like yours, and the leaves all fell off, I put it under a bush for shade and forgot about it because I thought I killed it, was I surprized that fall I had the nices looking jade, it had grow tons of new branches and leaves. could yours have gotten to much sun? hope I helped, linda mn.

I'm just piggybacking on this one if you don't mind. I have a sick aloe vera, too. I wonder if it got too wet or too cool (or both). It's losing its color and getting limp. It was a baby off of my mom's humongous one that's now gone. My sister's is doing great. I saw some advice about checking the roots to see if they were OK (like nueva gardener did above) and haven't done that yet. I wanted to have the soil on hand first (cactus or African Violet soil was recommended -- it's been in sand for decades and that's what it's still in). Anyway -- my real question was with rooting in the perlite. Do you wet IT when you first start out? Thanks! Flo :-)

Hi it's happening here too and I have 142 plants!!!At first I thought that the blight from my tomatos was the culprit too,then it reminded me of the time I over fertilized.The leaf fall is horrendous. I've come to the conclusion of not watering until necessary overwatering in this case too much RAIN,and poss blight they are both members of the niteshade family.I treated with copper first then a biological I guess wait and see is all we can do.EXPECT the plants to live but withe reduced output and hope for better next year.GL---Neil

Darielle 'Soft & squishy' is never good - plant is waterlogged, and could start rotting very easily. Original potting soil is likely full of peat (if not all peat) or cocopeat. These are ok for starting many cuttings, but they are tricky to keep properly moist: if too wet, plant will sit in mucky soil. If very dry, peat becomes hydrophobic and very hardy, and it repels water. If my plant, I would take it out immediately. Get rid of all old soil. Get a new mix - I do not know what is available to you, but simple and better draining mix could be made by using a cacti & succulent soil (or citrus soil) and mix it with at least 50% of coarse perlite. There are many other mixes ppl use (in my case, it is a mix of grit, perlite and turface). These will drain very well. You could find lots of posts about jades on Cacti & Succulents forum here - pls. click me Plant should be little higher up in pot - more soil should be used. That will allow for much better air circulation around stems. If you want to direct branches to grow in specific direction, wiring them could be better idea - string seems to be quite thin and it could cut/damage stem. Pruning is a simple way of directing growth. Keeping it outdoors would be good idea. If potted in well draining mix, there should be np with rain showers. Be careful putting it outside from - perhaps - darker spot indoors; plants need to be acclimatized to much better, outdoors sunlight.
