exactley that my total point. How often do you really get good neighbors!usually you might get one neighboor you can get along with. Here in my neighboorhood it's one of the older neighboorhoods but still way to high priced like everything in Asheville realestate wise but I swere people start making about 60,000 a year and they just turn into snobs who feel entitled.

I wish I was closer to you. First of all, don't give up. You'll find a group that you click with and love their plants and yards as you do. Next, look into joining a Garden Club. I'm sure there must be several in that area. Great way to meet other plantaholics. Does Ashville have a plant swap? Charlotte is some distance from you but would be another possibility for a Sat. day trip to their swap. All you need is one or two others that appreciate their plants (and yours). I'm sure, from her post, Dottie in Charlotte would be a great person to live next door to. If you are ever in the Raleigh area I'd love to share my yard with you. Keep the chin up, things will change, you just haven't found the right group yet.

I'm about an hour from Asheville, in Hickory, if you want to meet halfway somewhere. I have lot of things to share, even some seedlings that might not get planted out. Nothing on your trade list, so send an email & let me know what you are looking for.

Well, I think your neighbors are pathetic to take your offerings without even leaving a card to invite you to their yards. That's what I would have done. That's how you make friends with common interests.
I don't think it's a Yankee/Rebel issue or even an issue of income but of upbringing. just my humble opinion..

Since they were so unthinking as to take, and not be generous with their time or commitments for the future, I think you should write it off to experience, and next time make it obvious that you are NOT GIVING AWAY the plants, you want to swap others for them. A bit of advance advertising, either a sign, or maybe an ad in the local newspaper (Mountain Express or one of the others, I think they are pretty low cost), or posted in the local cafes or stores would prep people to bring a plant or two in hope of getting a plant or two. This would especially work if you gave a short list of that you had the most of, as well as what you had only a few of - get people early for your rarities, and later, more relaxed for the ones that you had more of.

Kudos to you for being generous, but I do also think you need to be a bit firmer and say the plants aren't free for the taking, only for trading. Maybe next time don't say Free Plants, if you put up a sign the next time. How about announcing a Plant Swap?
