I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the plants are very aware of where the top of the soil surface is located. I'm also sure that you're ok. I have also noticed a few plants have put roots very close to the surface. The only thing I do is to fill in any holes I've created when watering them (I never pack the soil, so the soil will give away the first/second time watering after transplantation). The pepper plants like good drainage and no "wet feet", so I guess the soil rotting could be an issue in a non-raised garden. I guess for piece of mind, you could maybe dig down 8-12 inches in your garden and see if there's traces of long standing water. In any case, if that turned out to be a problem, then I don't think half an inch to an inch deeper in the pot would make much of a difference. I have a raised bed that I use for my vegetables. It's kind of small and I cannot fit the 50 Pepper plants (or so!) that I am planning on keeping this year. I use containers for those. There's no way that I'll run into this problem.

I "think" you need to frame. However, it doesn't need to necessarily be far outside the tub dimension. ie the edge of the tub can be sitting on the frame. the spec sheet can tell you how much. we built ours with a 2x6 frame in front of the tub to have room for the faucet. and we had grante extending a bit past that. If you're looking for a serious soaker, it is definatly a take no prisoners approach. Also, I'm not sure if I can say this enough, make sure your contractor knows what you're planning if you are planning on this... especially if it is a second floor install. this tub is seriously heavy, and huge. there is no way in my house we could have manouvered it into the bathroom if we didn't have a wall completely gone, and probably couldn't have gotten the thing up the stairs, we used a lift when their was no railings. I'm sure people have figured things out, but I guess my point is, it isn't a "standard" tub or install

We have inset cabinets and my dinner plates didn't fit in my uppers...sigh. Inexperienced cabinet maker...they were all custom! :( The outside of my uppers measure 12 1/4'' from the wall. The inside dimension is only 10 1/2'' exactly. Most dinner plates are 11''. If I had overlay doors, I'd have an extra 3/4'' of space. That is the thickness of my doors that are inset into the frame. The only other thing I can think of that didn't fit in my uppers that I used to keep in there were a few larger bowls (like salad bowls). I keep those in my dining buffet now along with all of my china. I bought new every day dishes that have a 10 1/2'' dinner plate (although in reality they are just a tad smaller) and so they fit perfectly in the uppers. I'm with Marthavila, that 13 1/2'' would be a minimum for plates to fit. If were doing it again, I'd probably go with 14''. Hope this help...I'd change your order! Good luck! :)

Some of those ganglely 'ol C baccatums that, no matter what, I couldn't get them close enough to the lights, got potted as much as 4", even at a near 90 angle. They are just as happy as can be. A good light potting medium with plenty of organic matter and that does not hold too much moisture is a must (at least in my mind). I have also had a PERFECT week for hardening off down here! I never thought it was unusual, so I never kept track, but I know for a fact I have a bell and a dundicut that did that recently. I dont think I ever had that happen with the more woody ones, like tepin. I was chopping back a 4.5' x 5' fatalii bush and was surprized I never noticed that root buds went up 2' from the soil! By the time I get it pruned back far enough to fit through the door it will have root buds near the top of the plant! The pot its in is about 8 gallons, I dont know if thats enough for a 4.5' x 5' bush (hence the early pruning) so it could be from being root bound. Humidity is probably still a factor. Now that I think about it, it usually happens when plants are root bound or loosing a fight for root space with another plant.
