Trade Scions Anyone?? Taxodium,Metasequoia,Ginkgo

Grafting time is near. Is anyone interested in trading scion wood? I have a small collection of Taxodium, Metasequoia, and Ginkgo with small quantities of scion wood to trade for cultivars that I don't have. I'm only looking for 1-3 pieces to ensure a successful graft for my collection. In some cases, I can probably trade a 1 year Taxodium graft for scions. I'm listing the cultivars that I currently have for reference. The ones with an asterisks (most Ginkgo cultivars) are too small to obtain adequate cuttings, but more should be available next year. Who knows...I'll consider trading scions from the cultivars with asterisks if recieving a cultivar that I really want.

Thanks, Brandon. I've been a member of the yahoo group with no success there, at least not yet. I didn't know about the facebook group, but I've applied to that group. For whatever reason, it seems like there's sometimes more overlap between people growing large native trees (oaks, etc.) with nut trees than there is with fruit growers like dominate a lot of fruit groups and scion exchanges. I suppose that may have a lot to do simply with space issues, as fruit trees are more compatible in a lot of ways with the typical suburban yard. My own interests overlap more with the fruit groups, but I noticed this forum has had more discussion of walnuts, hickories, etc. than the fruit and orchards forum, so I was hoping one of those people might have a Neel #1. Thanks-Lisa Have: Muscadine grape vine: disease resistant, seeded, big purple grapes(very sweet when eaten ripe) Josta berry pomegranate plant figs-celeste and some green(fruit is yellow green) unknown kind Medicinal: feverfew, st.john's wort, winter savory(culinary), rosemary, white yarrow, gotu kola and indian oregano. Bottlegourd and ridged gourd seed(very healthy vegetables). mountain mint, apple mint, spear mint, peppermint, lavendar, comfrey(blue and white flowered), regular sage and rosemary. White Mulberry Santa Rosa Plum(red inside and very good) and I think methley(flavor is a ok) Veggies: malabar spinach cutting, red leaf veggie eaten in india don't what it is called here, egyptian walking onions. Flowers: Mums: many colors(yellow, orange, salmon pink, red, crimson, purple) 2-3 inch daisy like flowers. Can be sent after some warm up, they are just coming up. Rose: double delight, blue/purple girl, 2 yellow varities, chicago peace, queen elizabeth, red chef, pink knock out. Money Plant: In spring, it has purple blooms which dries and looks like little pale white disc used in flower arrangements. reseeds freely. Delphinims-blue reseeds Canna-some bright red variety rose of sharon-i think purple/white Russian sage. Heuchera forsythia Indian Jasmine-very fragrant.

I like all conifers and Japanese maples. This year I'm grafting Taxodium, Metasequoia, Ginkgo, Diospyros kaki (Japanese persimmon), and a few Pinus taeda brooms that I've discovered. I'm also grafting a few Abies cultivars to Abies firma (I live in the South) and doing a small trial of Abies nordmanniana rootstocks.

Great list of ginkgo cultivars! I also have several ginkgoes that I'd like to swap. Some are in very short supply but will hopefully be increased for next year, such as 'Peve Maribo'. Also, I have a thousand or so ginkgo seeds from 'Patio Umbrella' a 25' tall x 50' wide female which produces a wide variety of leaf types among the seedlings. It produces heavy crops of nice size seeds which are good for rootstocks or for roasting. Here is my current list:

Some may be place holder names or names given to otherwise unknown varieties. I'll be grafting a number of variant leaf types from Spring Grove #22, especially the linear leaf buds. No way of telling at this stage of the game if the trait will hold.
I'm particularly interested in obtaining scions of 'Peve Lobo'.

The pics show the linear leaves of Spring Grove #22. In many cases the leaf blade is not much wider than the petiole. I've marked a dozen or so lateral buds that produced all or nearly all such leaves in 2012. Maybe the trait will hold, maybe not. We'll see. My Spring Grove #22 has a wide variety of different leaf types ranging from cupped to linear to tubular.

If you want taxodium hybrids (NB, 405,406,407, 502, 27) contact Dr. Creech from SFASU to see if he would give you some. I have all of these plants but they are too small (1g plants) to give you scions. Oh yeah, Jim's Little Guy BC.

Next fall, I'm going by SFASU to collect cones from Montezuma Cypress. They always produce nice looking trees compared to others. They seem to be more full and straight like BC (MC's big fault is that it doesn't grow a dominant trunk). I will give them to anyone who wants it.
