Valencia citrus tree in northern Florida off the ocean?

I live off the gulf coast of Florida near the ocean or by the sound where there is a lot or salt in the air. I purchased a Valencia orange tree and haven't had any issues with tomatoes or other plants growing around here but was concerned how well a Valencia tree would do here. I live in Pensacola which is north western Florida near gulf shores alabama and I think we are zone 8a. My mother is good at gardening and helped me move the tree into a bigger pot after a week and out some sort of enriched mulch or something that retains water, been watering about once a week and she also suggest putting shells at the bottom of the planter as well as on the top to retain the water, the leaves have some grey spots on them when it was first purchased and she said that some of the leaves may fall off due to shock moving to another planter. Other than that, anything else I should know or should things work out in northern Florida?
