It would be best to leave it until after the flowers are gone. With citrus, it is best to only ever buy a pot slightly bigger - the next size up from the one you have, or the one above that as a maximum. No more that 13inches across the top I would say, just to play it safe until you get the care under wraps. That potting mix should be fine, but I would still either sift out the fine matter with a sieve to improve drainage, or add some coarse material in - perlite, turface, pine bark chippings, coarse sand etc. Even the commercial citrus mixes, in my experience, are likely to compact over time, so add something into it. Is tis your first tree? If so, read up all you can here on watering, feeding and where it should be located. Reading will be the thing that helps this tree live, trust me. And don't worry if leaves drop off the tree when it is repotted. Just try to disturb the roots as little as possible (since this is your first repot) and give it time. Meyers usually drop a load of leaves after a repot if not careful lol. On another note, all the flowers that turn to fruit on your tree won't all stay attached. I imagine a few will, but it is natural for citrus to drop 95% and more of the little fruitlets without them getting bigger. Its a natural way of shedding what it can't hold, so don't worry when fruit drops off.

Linda, I am afraid that I have tried many applications of Meyers and never like the result, in complete contradiction to John and many others to me anything that has a Meyer in it would be better with a traditional lemon. Meyers have a "dirty" taste most of the time and at best have a weak orange flavor. I cannot tolerate drinking anything with Meyer in it, or any fresh application. I have made cakes, curds, pies, lemonades, fish with lemons cooked or grilled on top, etc with Meyers and never particularly like the result, though cooked they are more tolerable then anything with the fresh juice. However I had to toss out the salmon I made as the orange undertone flavor was awful. I just tried a jar of preserved lemons I made with Meyers and they were very bland compared to traditional preserved lemons. I keep trying to like them but I haven't found anything I prefer with them in it yet, mostly just things I find less offensive. I used to cook professionally and used Meyers pretty consistently in many applications and still never cared for them (same with kumquats though I REALLY don't like Kumquats and don't even want to try them in things anymore). I am pretty sure I am a traditional lemon kind of girl, which means more Meyers for the rest of you that like them! ;) Also I agree that its likely that your rootstock is taking over, cut off any branches that have different fruit and take note if the leaves look different in any way to your orange, that way you can identify it earlier and remove branches before they fruit and steal energy away from your oranges. Take pictures so if it happens again years from now you won't be struggling to remember what they looked like. Its likely that your neighbor had a tree whos scion died back/was taken over by its root stock at some point. If your friendly with them and they are the ones that planted the tree ask them what kind of tree it was when they planted it and if it changed at any point. If they didn't plant it they may not know. If you show us a picture of the tree we could help you figure out when to prune it.

Divine, I know that you think it is not dense, but it is. And adding potting mix, which is basically just peat, will make this mix even more dense. It will compact and will eventually cause water to accumulate in the bottom half of your pot, suffocating (drowning) your roots. Trust me, been doing this for a while, now :-) Silica is correct, so am I, so are the other several very successful container citrus growers on this forum. I wouldn't bother mixing my custom potting mix this way, if I didn't need to. And, it is quite warm where I live (Vista, N. San Diego county, about 7 miles inland), with little to no rain, and I still need to do this to prevent root rot. If I could have it easy, and just dump a bag of potting mix into my pot, I would. But, this eventually spells disaster in compacted and collapsed mix, and the death of my precious citrus tree. Since I grow a lot of rarer cultivars in containers, I consider it cheap insurance. You're welcome to do what you want, and ignore the advice of experienced container growers (and Silica is being very modest, he has the most fantastic greenhouse, and grows some of the most amazing things in a very inhospitable climate). I wish you luck, but I expect in a while, you'll see issues, so you can save this thread for future use, when you see your tree starting to do poorly. It will manifest itself in appearing to be under-fertilizing, then drooping, dropping leaves and overall failure. Those will be your signs of root rot. That, and a very wet bottom half of the pot with very stinky rotten roots. Patty S.

Very common here too Chro...but you don't see them for sale in markets. Thin skin,small tree size,etc. So,a bit more farmers market,specialty markets. I don't shop to pay more-lol,so my markets have the plain sour lemons,never Meyers. The Bay Area grows great lemons. The hot summer needy Citrus are a bit more tricky to get sweet fruit from. Limes though taste great..my neighbor gave me some of hers. Delicious.
