I would think if your leaves are glossy, have a healthy look to them, and look firm, it's nothing to be worried about. I have plants that develop a nice red tint to the edges when they get a lot of sun.

As long as this is a jade q thread and I see Jo and Josh have posted,..Im having issues w mine again.. After the main chopping I acclimated him (yes, hes a boy jade) to sun in June.. and of course two weeks later had an evening that got down to ohhh.. about 40 degrees or so.. It ruined a few of the smaller branches, so I removed them all.. It seems he went dormant tho.. Could it still be recovering from the slight frost is suffered from in June? All the new growth it put out just stopped.. None of it has died.. It just looks as if its frozen it time. I water thoroughly every other Sunday, turn 1/4 turn every day.. Im confused..

Hi, Christina! Yes, it could still be recovering from that cold snap...if any roots died, then the Jade would have to re-grow its roots before continuing with foliage production. Have you looked at the roots?

If the leaves are still firm when it comes time to water, you might try waiting a few days to see what happens. I wait until I can feel that my Jade's leaves are no longer turgid. I water until the leaves become firm. Then, in the weeks following, I simply squeeze a few of the leaves to determine if it needs water. Since I know that my plants were firm after the last time they were watered, any softness in the leaves indicates that the plant needs water. This way, I never have to "remember" or write-down when to water ;)

And for Mcdill, I couldn't resist taking a few more pics. This is the straight, large-leafed Crassula ovata exhibiting similar though not nearly as dramatic coloration as the small-leafed Jade I posted above. On most of my Jades, the new growth tends to be red.

Hey Josh.. Thanks a bunch! I have not checked the root system in fear of disturbing it again.. as you recall the mass repotting in early January, and then the unfortunate "water left in clear tray" incident, which led to the 2nd repotting in March (along with a root trim) Should I go ahead and check? Or should I just leave him be and water according to your advice? I forgot to mention I did bring him back upstairs after the frost in June and decided to leave him in the west window due to our weather this summer. If its not raining, its warm but very humid...gotta love the summers of NW PA! I usually keep a bamboo stick in it and water when its bone dry (which is usually every other Sunday after Ive checked on Saturday).. I think Im paying too much attention to it! It was doing better when I couldnt care less in my 20's!! lol

Aloefreak, finding a name for these Jade variations can be quite difficult. I've
tried to get an ID on that Jade in the past, but couldn't come to a concensus on
the variety. Norma, I believe, suggested that it might be a variety called 'Ruby.'
What I do know is that it is a small-leaf Jade that develops exceptional red
coloration throughout the year. Check the link below for more information on this
particular Jade and the condition in which it was found.
