Actually, I am having the same problem. I was going to post my own post, but saw this was here, so I thought it may be better to ask here. What is happening with me is that I am planting cuttings started in straight perlite, over to a mix of potting mix and perlite into bigger containers. I just lightly moisten the mix before transplanting. However, my leaf wilting is not happening over time. It is over night. I transplant them that night, and in the morning, their leaves are wilted and droopy. Since they have not even been watered, would my leaf wilting be from root stress from the transplant? So, will the cutting recover? Even if it loses its leaves, will the cutting still be ok? Should I do anything else to them? I was just curious is my wilting if from transplant shock since it has only been 12 hours after transplant and what I can do to save them while they are still alive. Thank you! Christy

Did your plants dry out and wilt severely recently? The necrotic leaves are exactly the type of damage I have seen on plants that have withered due to lack of water. The pot you have it in appears way too small. I'm guessing that it is drying out very quickly in that size pot. The yellow leaves are a result of it being pot-bound. I usually grow most of my mints in a 12 inch pot. That works well for about one or two growing seasons for me. In your climate, it may out grow a 12 inch pot in a single season. Mint prefers to be on the moist side and the soil should not be allowed to dry out completely. Most container grown plants, including herbs, will benefit from a little fertilizer since the nutrients tend to leach out of a pot as water drains through. F. DeBaggio

hi you moved a large plant from one location to another ... so one would ask themselves.. how did the 'culture' change ... a lot of tropical plants.. are shade plants ... growing under the forest canopy ... perhaps you have it in too much sun??? a corollary to that.. is that it was in a shaded greenhouse.. and now you have it in blistering sun ... if i see you pic correctly ... i would probably reduce direct sun ... you are a bit closer to the equator.. than most of us who grow plants in a window ... the other option.. was that you moved it outside ... and it was colder than it preferred ... and you shocked it somehow ... you water a plant when it needs water.. and you have to insert your index finger.. and teach it how to understand when such is needed ... perhaps our friends in teh hosueplant forum can leand some insight into such ... good luck ken ps: your pic is an optical illusion.. shadows running both right and left ... if your plant is against a wall on the right .. you are frying it ... and if the sun is coming from right .. then why is there a shadow to the right of what looks like hanging blinds behind the plant???? ... so.. is that a wall or a balcony on the right???? ... where is the sun coming from????

Too many times, the symptoms of too-little-water and too-much-water are very similar.... I'm wondering if perhaps you haven't given it enough water: the top few inches are okay, but the lower part of the pot isn't. Some soil-less mixes contain a lot of peat. Peat can hold a lot of water -- but when already dry, peat hates to absorb moisture. If the yellowing began before the rain stopped, it might be that the first yellowing was caused by too much moisture, and the later yellowing was from too little moisture. Or perhaps the peat wasn't thoroughly damp when you potted it, and even the rainfall didn't remedy that situation. So I'd advise giving the plant the opportunity to absorb as much water as possible. The question is how best to accomplish that, because if you keep watering, the water may just run through empty spaces in the pot (where the dry peat has shrunken away from the pot), and do very little to moisten the mix. If it weren't a heavy pot, you could put it in a larger container (or even a large plastic bag) and wait until plenty of water was absorbed. Maybe someone else can suggest a better method to try. If you don't already have mulch, add some at the top of the pot to cut down on soil moisture evaporation. And water more and more often. One possible disadvantage of trying this is that you may lose some fruit to splitting.
