I tried and lost (the deodara lost)

Five years ago we had a 10' deodara cedar planted as part of our landscape package. The company elevated the planting a bit but obviously not enough.

This cedar did just fine during the two years of drought but this year's adequate rains apparently were too much. It started losing its green color about three months ago. I'd hoped the typical lesser rainfall of summer would help but we got more rain than expected.

Now, mid July the needles are fallen, it's brown and what a shame.

I tried but learned these cedars want to be planted on a berm.

Next week it gets removed and come fall, I'll put in the Savannah holly I originally asked for.

In the same border, I have two smaller dwarf type Deodaras growing quite nicely. Hopefully, the large holly to go in will suck up any excess moisture in the bed. Hoping I'll have years of red berrys from the holly to use in holiday decorations.
