Guernsey Cream question

There is post in the gallery about this clematis, and I added a picture of mine to it. In the post, I said that I planted it 3-4 years ago, but am now thinking it was probably longer than that. ANYWAY, it was a small plant when I got it, and it was before I knew about potting them up, then planting them deeper, etc. It's blooming, but still pretty spindly. Should I dig it up and replant it deeper? Dig it up and pot it up if the roots are small, then replant it this fall or next spring?

Thanks,

Brenda
