Confessions of a hesitant pruner

Greetings all. Last year I posted some pictures of my Josephine...she bloomed marvelously, or so I thought. I only had a few blooms and felt that I should be satisfied with that.

And now my confession...I didn't prune her at all last year in the Spring (this was her 3rd year in the soil)...she looked so darn miserable I figured that leaving her be would be best. Well...

This year she looked even worse...in fact I figured she was dead as a door nail. So I got my clippers and snipped her down to around 6". To my utter surprise, and significant relief, I've got game! She is putting up growth all over the place and happily climbing up the trellis by DH built for me 4 years ago (for a SAC from WFF that never ever ever did anything...I digress).

So there you have it...pruning is good, as is confession, for the soul and the garden!

Ciao,

OITGAD
