Everyone seems to think they are clematis...

Hi folks...I have 20 different clematis plants in my yard. Love 'em - but, am no expert. (just love em) The past two years I have volunteer vines near my Sweet Autumn Clemetis. The very oldest (bottom) leaves on these plants have a pale gray (or silver) marking right down the center of the leaf. (on each side of the mid-rib of the leaf) Now, the newest leaves look just like a clematis. Last year none of these volunteer vines bloomed.

Even though I see the silver markings on the oldest leaves...could these be a clematis??

What do you think? Have any of you ever seen that silver marking on the oldest (bottom) leaves on a clematis plant.A few folks have told me they think it is a clematis. I don't have a digital camera to post a photo.

Thanks.

PS - I hope I've made myself clear enough on this.
