Thank you for the nice comments. This is a 90 years old tool shed. It faces West and get sun in the afteernoon. Nelly feels very vell there. Isago needs more time to cover the arch. To the right of Mrs. Cholmondeley is a viticella species native to my country. I rooted a cutting a few years ago. It will bloom next month

I've had the same problem you've had with my Lincoln Star. Mine is 3-4 years old, with no problems growing & flowering, but the reddish bar color is very pale, during both 1st & 2nd blooms. I don't think fertilizer is the problem, because all my stock get the same regimen & this is the only problem child. Initially I thought it might be due to the very hot weather here (9a), but this should not affect the 1st bloom. I've layered one branch and thereafter plan to severely prune & move this one into another location. If this doesn't work I will probably try Carnaby, which is similar.

My now-deceased MiL was an absolute mine of information,... she told me that Clematises are Yin/Yang plants; that is to say, they love their roots in cool shade, but love their tops in warm bright sun.... She also advised me to plant them very deep, and to make sure that the first pair of buds on all stems were at least 2" below soil level. This was to ensure new growth in case of the dreaded 'Clematis wilt'... so I always followed her advice, and buried deep, then covered up to the planting spot with large stones and even, in one case, a paving slab. I have always had what I considered 'prize-winning' clematises. I remember once, after having sold the house we lived in, I returned to collect something we had left in the Garage (with the new owner's knowledge and consent, I hasten to add!) and the wife took me into the garden to see her progress, but asked me why now the clematis was not doing so well. She had removed the stones, and the ground round the plant was actually warmed, constantly by the sun (the garden was a South-facing sun trap!). I advised her to replace the cover I had previously placed around the clematis, which she did. She sent me a photograph (an actual photograph, not a 'virtual' one! Those were the days!!) of the clematis 2 years later. It was monstrous!! Sadly, we have now lost touch; but I often wonder if they're still there, and how the garden is faring....

Shouldn't be an issue at all. With woodier plants if the foundation has holes such as a loose rock foundation or if the septic tank isn't properly sealed, roots can intrude and cause issues, but I wouldn't expect any issue with clematis even with those type of problems.
