I don't think it would work. Dehydrating isn't really extracting. What you can do... steep your mint leaves or orange peels in vodka for a few weeks. Then remove the solids. Then freeze the vodka and the oil and vodka will separate, leaving you with a vodka layer and an oil layer. This is technically a tincture and not essential oil. For proper essential oil, you have to distill it.

You can juice them however you wish but yes, you do want the sit period. The sediment isn't just a bit of pulp, it is the source of spoilage enzymes, bitterness, bacteria, poor quality flavor and very cloudy appearance. How much straining you do is your choice but experience will show you that you won't be happy with the result if you don't follow the standard directions. Most any fruit can be made into juice using your juicer but some fruits won't hold up to the heat of canning as it really changes the flavor - especially citrus. Trying to take shortcuts in home canning will almost always result in poor quality, wasted time, wasted energy, and pitched food. Dave

Re: fruit leather. I stumbled across a way to make individual "fruit roll-ups" without needing the special trays, or the hassle of covering my trays in plastic wrap. I cut squares of baking parchment so that 4 fit per tray, then spread the fruit puree onto each square. Dehydrate as usual. The dried fruit leather easily peels off of the parchment, but to store, just toss the individual squares into a zipper bag, paper and all. DS LOVES the applesauce "fruit rollups" I made this wayâ¦easy to throw into his school lunches.

Squeezo is a very old name for the newer model Villaware or Roma food strainer. These use a very good design that incorpoates a spiral auger that pushes the juices through a fine holed screens and removes all traces of seeds and skins. No prepping needed, unless the tomatoes are really big, where you simply cut them in quarters. Its similar to a meat grinder, but its for most any food that has skins and/or seeds. I use it for red raspberry jam without seeds. The use of a finer hold berry screen is what gives me just the juices and soft pulp, and any seeds are pushed out the end of the conical sieves. They also make a shorter spiral for large grape seeds and a pumpkin screen or even a 3/16 inch hole salsa screen. These are extra attachments. If you were dong a LOT of tomatoes or othr things, also suggest the motor unit. I have one here and 'crank' out a bushel in about 10 minutes. The newer ones have a twist on strainer screen, while teholder models have two big wingnuts on each side of the screens.
