Bought my first Clematis, Now what?

Hi

First let me introduce myself. I am a rose person and do not have any experience with clematis. However, since I have been re doing my backyard, I have few places that need clematis to grow on obelisks with roses.

I took advantage of Koi Gardens sale and bought 7 type II clematises.

2 Arctic Queen (for full sun), 2 Clair de Lune ( for shady place in planters), 2 Franziska Maria ( full sun) and 1 Rosemoor ( half day, morning sun).

What would I do with them, just plant them deep in the ground when they arrive or should they be potted up for one or two years? If they get potted, then should I hard prune them just before planting them in the ground?

I would appreciate any help you can give me. Any good informative article is greatly appreciated too.

Thanks,

FJ
