Interesting history about its introduction?

Dr. J.B. Owens planted original seeds he got from W.J. Crosby in Charleston, SC. 'Pineapple' was given its name by Dr. Owens' daughter who thought the tree was shaped like a pineapple plant.

Season of maturity: Midseason (January through March)

Use (juice, fresh, home dooryard): Juice, rarely fresh because of seediness.

Good aspects as a commercial cultivar: Excellent juice quality and color.

Undesirable aspects as a commercial cultivar: can be quite seedy. Least cold hardy of the commercial orange varieties. Subject to alternate bearing, blight, pre-harvest fruit drop and pineapple "pitting" (peel creases because of stress).
