Cheap sources for California poppies?

According to the weather forecast, it's going to be raining here in L.A./O.C. area for almost a week. It's been so long since any rain fell, I've almost forgotten how to deal with the stuff.

I thought it might be a nice project to buy a bunch of wildflower seeds to fling into some of the ugly vacant lots around my neighborhood. Is there any source that sell big quantities at a discount? I've found some big packets at nurseries, but not particularly inexpensive for covering maybe thousands of square feet.

Also, I'd like to stick to native plants that aren't too invasive. I think California poppies will do the trick but would also like to try a few other species.
