What's going on with these Wave Petunias?

I bought a couple of flats of waves at HD about a month ago. I use them here and there, some in pots, some in the ground to add color, etc.

Most of them have been doing great, but about 1 in every 5 has developed some type of "blight" where it shrivels up and eventually dies, sometimes with blooms still on the end.

I had this problem last year and attributed it to snails/slugs (which I killed with an ammonia/water solution), but I don't think it's the case this time around. It's just happened too fast and in too random a location (some in the ground and some up in high pots, while their neighbors are untouched and going gang busters.

I can't seem to figure it out, but I don't want to lose any more to this.

Ideas?
