I agree with Dave, accept that some leaves will be nibbled by bugs and slugs but, for the most part, they won't make much if any difference in your harvest. I do plant tight and heavy though, to the point that once the greens, such as kale, chard, bok choy and lettuces begin to grow, you can not see the soil any longer. They produce their own grown cover, no need to mulch, no weeds and good water retention. They may not grow as large, though I don't see any difference, and you end up with more food per sq foot. I then regularly "pick" from each plants just enough for a meal OR take a whole plant out here and there, making more space for the others. My bok choy seems a favourite of the bugs this year (slugs?) many holes but I eat those leaves all the same, and still plenty left without holes as well, further up the plant. My bok choy has bolted now, will plant more soon, but have just found out the flowers and especially the flower buds taste even better then the leaves themselves, like broccoli, bonus! I also do as lacyvail says, planting herbs and flowers that beneficial bugs are attracted to. Predators such as wasps, are a great help in the garden, attacking the veg eating pests. I keep dill and fennel out of the actual veg bed though, as they aren't always the best companions of veg.

I don't have alot of experience with this, but... The mosquitos in my wet swampy back yard are not particularly bad. I had a co-worker come over one day and I commented on the lack of mosquitos to him. He indicated that it was due to the large number of Sweet Gums on the property. There might be something to this as the turpines in the leaves are fairly strong. Another co-worker indicated that Weeping Willows, while very pretty, attract mosquitos. I have a few sickly willows, but don't see much difference in the mosquito count around them. As an experiment, I'm going to plant tobacco this spring to look at the insect repellent properties of this plant (works with some bugs, don't know about mosquitos).

I have used Proactiv for about a year and really like it. I still do get an occasional blemish, but they are more the type near the surface of the skin that only stay for a day or two, as opposed to the type that can wreck your whole week. The only downside I found to Proactiv was that it turned my khaki Tommy Hilfiger pillowsheets orange from some ingredient contained in the face scrub. It does have a fine-print warning on the box that it may bleach some fabrics, but it was still a bummer. I purchase most of my Proactiv products on ebay. They are much cheaper there than buying them directly from Proactiv. Obviously, prices vary on ebay, but I usually pay about eight dollars, plus shipping, for an individual bottle and around 35-40 dollars for the three-piece kit, which includes the mask.

I'm gonna give ours to a friend of my son's who really needs it bad...I wish his parents would get him some help...he looks awful and I know it's making him sooo self conscious... That was soo kind of you to offer!! This stuff ain't cheap but it works and I know whoever gets yours will surely appreciate it!
