Clematis addict in training: basic question

Hi, I'm Ann and I love roses.

I also admire clematis and am ready to add to my plant addiction. With joy I see some familiar names here.

I have some tall substantial wooden structures in my rose garden and these structures need clematis on them.

Digression: when I was a child, I transplanted extra daffodil bulbs in our meadow along a creek. And they bloomed well, but every last one faced west, to the sun so they were less spectacular than they should have been.

Back on topic.

Where I want the clematis here is south and west of our house. Will the clematis bloom all over, or will most of them face their blooms opening to the south and west?

Are the smaller, pendulous bloomers a better bet for all over blooms?

(I've lived with a row of sunflowers facing south and the back lit petals are beautiful, but the prospect of back lighted clematis petals may make me choose some colors over others.

Many thanks.

Ann
