Sad Croton - help plz!!!
Comments (11)Crotons are not the easiest plant to grow indoors, but I have found that it can be done. My experience with crotons is that there are four big things you need to deal with to keep them going indoors: 1. High light - ideally it should be in front of a southern window. 2. Lots of humidity, but enough air movement so that the plant doesn't develop fungus problems. If you have a humidifer, you might want to try setting it up near the croton. I put my croton on the back of an aquarium to let it benefit from the humidity of the fish tank. 3. Frequent watering, but not so frequent that the soil stays constantly soggy and the roots rot. I agree with the person who said that this plant may be in too big of a pot and the soil looks too "heavy". A light, fast-draining soil mix will allow you to water frequently without rotting the roots, which is what crotons like. (I am actually growing my croton in a hydroculture set up so it has constant access to moisture but I wouldn't suggest converting a plant as fussy as a croton to hydroculture when it might be sickly) 4. Be vigilant about fighting spider mites. A lot of crotons come home from the store with spider mites and you need to be aggressive about killing them for the plant to grow well. Do you see any thin strands of spider webbing on your plant? That's often a sign of spider mites. If your plant has mites, we can tell you how to battle them. Where do you live? If it is warm enough, you could try putting the croton outdoors for the summer. They often do a lot better outside because of the light, warmth, and humidity (in humid areas at least). The only thing to worry about with putting it outside is that when you bring it back inside for winter there is a good chance it will have picked up spider mites while it was outside, so you'd need to plan on spraying it down with Neem or some other product to kill spider mites then. Comments (32)Hope all the boys with their injuries are getting better. Yes they will always call and sometimes if the child acts funny they will really make your life miserable. You would think that boys never have accidents they way some of them can act. I was always at the school for some bruise or another with my two and they usually did it to each other, lol. They fought all the time and still don't get along. John says his oldest boy was always good. He said when they went to someones house they could have a box of toys right in front of them and they wouldn't move from where he told them to sit unless he told them it was ok even if the other person told them it was ok to play. I told him thats because he trains us all like the dogs, lol. He makes you want to mind him, lol. I often wonder if my boys would have been different if I had met him sooner. It has surely helped with my daughter. She acts very different around him than she does with her father and he will do anything in the world to please him. I thought he was going to faint when he heard her back talk her father on the phone once, lol. He just expects you to behave and thats it they do it, lol. Even my boys don't act up in front of him. His younger son got arrested once and sat in jail 3 days and wouldn't call and tell him until his brother found out and called us, lol. He would have stayed there forever rather than tell his father he got in trouble. He gets this look on his face and it makes you stand up straighter, lol....See MoreCrassula almost died.. suggestions plz on how to save it.
Comments (26)JoJo I don't know you yet, but want to help, you can ask Pirate Girl about my credentials, I know this plant well, yes remove the old stuff, and stop misting, water it thoroughly then leave it alone, I hardly water mine in the hot summers, and they flower for me this time of the year. They are winter growers and if you cut them back in October and don't water until then, give them a little fertilizer they will flower for you for Christmas, I have on opening pink right now.I abuse mine all summer, July 15-Oct 15. they can take temps down to 20F/ the grow in Africa on rocky hillsides in the Eastern side of the cape so they really don't like much water and it can actually harm them. Pirate Girl know what I'm talking about, she lives in the East. I live on sthe West Coast and ;; have 25 counting the species that you have. Yours is 'Silver Dollar' and I know the latin name but would need to look up the spelling. The barks are all different which to me is the interesting part of the plant. and helps ID which one it is, the leaves are different sizes and colors. Take a cutting and restart but let it dry out first to seal over, this is a perfect time to do so. Norma...See MorePlz help the decorating dummy (living room)!
Comments (33)Did you end up doing the magnetized chalkboards in your kitchen? That's how we "chatted" -- you were interested in mine. (I have the all-white kitchen with lots of white marble and the two magnetized chalkboards on either side of our fridge and freezer, if that rings a bell.) Listen, don't sell yourself short! 2,400 square feet is a lot of flooring and (to be redundant) a lot of cleaning. I can see how rugs mightn't be tops on your list .... That being said, last weekend on HGTV's Find Your Style they did a Craftsman living room and used this rug in the Jewel colorway from Room & Board: It's definitely a modern goose on Craftsman style and unfortunately, none of these photos do it justice but in the episode it looked wonderful! from the episode: I don't know how much you want to do True Mission, and (caveat) I really like like a modern twist thrown in to keep it fresh and current, but what about a leather Moroccan rug or a Turkish kilim? Warning: you could be lost for days searching for those! (there are so many and it can become positively addictive -- I started to look for you but snapped to when two year-old Li'l Bit demanded a cuddle) This is the vase I got from etsy, just so you can see what I was thinking: I know you just hung the pictures in your stairwell, but do you think you could hang both of them together? I like them but think, in the photo, they appear kind of lost. In my mind's eye if hung together they wouldn't look so salt & pepper. (Don't change the one by the lamp, however!) Have a wonderful tapas party this Friday!...See Morehoovb zone 9 sunset 23
