Best reds for repeating

Hello all,

I don't have a lot of knowledge about clematis. I have a few and a couple are doing quite well.

I've got a once blooming rose 'Newport Fairy' climbing a post, that has single small white w/ pink edged blooms. I would like to plant a clematis with it, hopefully red to match my front door. I'm more concerned about having one that blooms repeats profusely. It doesn't matter so much that it blooms with the rose, I want it to take over when the rose is done.

After searching on this forum, I was thinking about Mme Julia Correvon, but am open to suggestions if there are others you might recommend. I'm hoping for something rather vigorous to match the vigor of the rose. Any suggestions?

Does anyone grow Ladybird Johnson? That looks pretty too.

Also does one have to do anything special to get the clematis to repeat? After researching I've discovered that my Pink Champagne is supposed to repeat but mine never has.

Thank you in advance,

Barb
