Starting Tuesday and building,records could be broken by the end of the week.80's might be touched by the bay area-up to 95 sizzling degrees for Los Angeles.

Warmest third week of November in 150 years?..we will see..

Well, that would really suck for all my seedlings. I'm rooting for under 90 degrees.

Yeah they are say 97 by Thursday for me and of course in comes the SA winds. I have had wind for a week now and was howling all weekend and still is.
Yesterday morning I did enjoy the cool breeze in the morning on the patio snuggled under a blanket in shorts in the sun enjoying the fall bloomers and my hummers zooming by all morning.

I was very concerned about this early warming but the long-range forecast is that the general warming trend is going to stay in place through March for sure. This means I am probably OK since by April it has usually warmed up here anyway. Folks in colder climates may have more problems in April but this warm trend is caused by La Nina (sic) pattern which is a long-term thing, not just random weather ups and downs. I am going to have to spray this week, I saw a plum already flowering on my way to work this morning. Scott PS see below for the current March/April/May forecast for example. Looks like a good chance for a freeze here on Monday (31F forecasted). Not too happy about that since that will definitely mean I have to bring many (most) of my potted plants inside and I might even consider covering a few hardy plants that are in bud and/or bloom right now (camellias in bloom, roses have full foliage, wax begonias survived the winter and are quickly growing). We are back to average temperatures here in NYC. Upper 50s maybe a 60 or 2 in the forecast this whole week. Average for this time of the year is 58F and we will have more days below average than above this week. Midwest and south still look very very mild though. Hope that weather comes here soon, but I dont think I will be bringing my tropical plants back outside again for several more weeks because I cant keep bringing things in and out. -Alex

plllog, we have a similar "micro-climate" here in Michigan. All along the lakeshore is zone 6, but less than 25 miles inland it's a whole 'nother zone, zone 5. Not as dramatic a change as skiiing and beaches, but it's always 10 degrees cooler at The Lake in the summer and 10 degrees warmer in the winter. sarah, we visited Dana Point while we were there too, I was looking for a date shake. Never did find one... Lars, hopefully I'll be seeing you this summer! Ellen, I'm sure we'll come again, but Jeremy comes here because he grew up here, his mother and brothers are here, and all the cousins. So, other family members visit occasionally but to see everyone, they have to come here. He likes July, LOL. Anyway, back to winterization! I saw the weather report, it's supposed to be down to 2F this weekend. I'm hoping my asparagus and garlic are mulched well enough as all the snow melted and that acts as insulation when it gets very cold. No snow, no insulating effect, hopefully those things are hardy enough to survive. Especially the asparagus, it's easier to grow more garlic. Annie

Morph??? What the hell? Okay your grass is badly diseased. Since cornmeal does not seem to work on fescue, I would suggest getting a recommendation from the people who installed it. Take one of those blades that is covered in black lesions (first picture) and yellow lesions (second picture) to them. They have probably seen it before. The reason the grass looks bad after a few days is due to the disease preventing or slowing the uptake of moisture. There's moisture in the soil, but the roots aren't working right. If this was St Augustine I would say the problem was from watering too frequently. You're so close to the coastal breeze, I really think you can back way off on the watering frequency. Rachio is not the best system unless you insist on watering more frequently than the online lawn community is recommending. Are you getting fog?

Yes, it has been eerily warm along the coast in the far northern part of California, too. Have hardly touched my woodpile at a time of year when I would normally be keeping a fire going all day.

Worst of it is that the garlic I have stored in the house wants to sprout! Have to keep a fan going to keep it cool and relatively dry. ugh

84 was the high in Hayward.Just to give you an idea,it's never been warmer than 79 this late in the year. The first 80 and then some. Another round of 80 tomorrow. Shoot,went for a walk at sundown and it was still 74....

When I got up this morning at 4 am the outside temperature was 68 degrees. Yesterday it was 47 and a week ago it was 37. I have to look at my calendar to be sure it is November and not April. Al

Our overnight low was 75 degrees here in Camarillo and we are (at 13:37 PST) one degree above our record.

It is ridiculous. 90's from May to November? I have lost almost as many tropicals to heat this year as I have to frost in the past 2 years. Of course it was my fault for not mulching in October !?!

It's been incredibly warm during the day here in So. Cal. I'm sure everyone is aware of the the terrible fires here, the O.C. and in Santa Barbara. Hot Santa Ana winds during the day. But the night cools down fast. With nights now in the middle 50s. We regulary have the Santa Anas this time of year. But the heat has persisted for a long time. Today, it was still 90 degrees in Downtown LA. Even along the coast it's been warm. However, we expect the marine layer to move in. But it's weak. Still kept at bay by the on shore winds.

We were at Newport Beach yesterday. The water was packed with surfers. A warm day with a brilliant pink sunset over Catalina island. It feels like july outside, and all the stores are now putting up Christmas decorations. Very odd indeed. Can't we go back to clouds and rain for a while- I was enjoying the cool air.
