Humming Bird left the nest at night
Comments (2)If the mother hummingbird isn't back by morning, you should quickly contact a bird rehabilitator. Don't think there is a charge. Hummingbirds and babies must eat every 15-30 minutes. Mix up some hummingbird food- 4 parts water to 1 part white sugar. Boil the water, add the sugar, stir till sugar is dissolved. Let cool to room temp. Feed babies with plastic eyedropper, slowly, one drop at a time so they don't choke. This will sustain them for a short period of time, but get them to a bird rehab fast. Call "Wild Birds Unlimited" store-or similiar stores, maybe even pet shops- to find a rehabilitator. Good Luck- hope the mom comes back!!!...See MoreOT-Time to bring in bird feeders at night
Comments (4)The goldfinches are enjoying the new thistle sock I had to buy yesterday and interestingly, Ted, through all the bear visits I've had here not once have they ever got into the garbage can. However, Friday night's visitor was trying to get to the can I keep the sunflower seed in. He was standing on the ground in front of the porch, with his front legs through the railing and wrapped around the can like huge furry arms, trying to pull it to him. They often traverse the yard and don't touch a thing. I know they've been here 'cause they take out the fence when they go through. Susie...See MoreBird? Sounds at night?
Comments (139)Hi, I know this post is old, but i came across it looking for another bird sound and had to reply because I'm pretty sure I know exactly what the noise is. I'm surprised nobody else has posted this. Southern Flying Squirrels. http://www.wildlifeofct.com/southern%20flying%20squirrel.html I live in Orlando and they're everywhere, yet nobody knows they're around because they come out at exactly dusk, party all night, and are in bed before you wake up. But if you happen to have a window right outside a tree they live in, they'll keep you up for hours. I had this problem in my old house. I have them living in my yard now as well, but fortunately their tree is on the other side of the house. Grab a flash light and hang out and look for them. But have patience because they're hard to spot at first. Here's a link to the sound. Comments (3)hmmmm Dirtgirl, I had no idea they were up at night. I would have bet it to be a mocker. Can you find it with your night vision binocs? (just kidding.....since you probably don't have any). I never thought I would tire of any birds songs either, but last summer, I had a red-eyed vireo around, who sang non-stop, all day. Alright already!! lol!...See Morehoovb zone 9 sunset 23
