The best time to move shrubs/trees that are already in the ground is late fall and winter. Early spring is probably next best. If you move it now, dig up as large of a root ball as possible and water it well through dry periods in spring, summer and fall. Also mulch it well.

Seconding what dawgie said. Your quince should be fine if moved now -- the weather's not hot yet, just keep the bush well watered. Quince are tough.

Good advice. That happened to me also, with a Lilac shrub! I moved it 3 Springs ago to avoid the lawn mowing DH, and am expecting the first flowers any day now. Wait til he sees it and he'll know what he's been missing. Now it's in the perennial border, nice and safe. I have noticed that Quince like partial shade. Planting it in bright shade will help it get thru this Summer's heat.

I've moved a large gardenia last year & this year 2 good sized camellias. Last year the gardenia looked as though it was ready to die. I had DH "hard prune" it while I was out of town. I mean nearly to the ground. It's thriving now.

The camellias are looking pitiful with the leaves all shriveling up. I'll hard prune it today.

It sounds harsh, but it encourages the plant to put down roots rather than waste it's energy trying to maintain it's leaves.

So go ahead and hard prune it leaving only a few leaves. Feed it, too. Keep it well watered & fed this summer & come next year, it should have put down some good roots & be happy.

ROTFLMAO...You gave me my first laugh of the day!

This DH of mine is so bad that last year when I had those little metal things with the orange flags on them (like the highway guys use) stuck right where my Black eyed Susans were coming up he managed to till over a couple of them & get the flags wound up in the tiller.

My fault of course for putting them within 12" of where he was tilling....lol.

He must be watched constantly when near my garden!

I consider myself lucky. I have done everything I can
(unintentionally) to kill mine and it keeps growing back. It has been eaten by a dog twice and run over with the tractor once. I finally decided to put up a big fence near it to help protect it

It is about 4 years old and less then a foot high. I think I heard it say this is the year I grow when I went by the other day.
