Wretched Mess is a mess!

This is the second set of buds this season. I say buds, not flush because the damn things keep dropping just before they open. At first I thought it was due to those nasty little worms burrowing into the buds but the ones dropping now are clean. It did fine last year. Any ideas why this is happening?

That was what I faced with this one and several others last yr.. This is their last chance...LOL I have gotten a small flush early on and it is puttin on loads of buds.. Not one of my Fav's... WM is not one That works well in our heat and I will probably be trading or selling it..I think it is one that will preform much better up North than down here in the desert.LOL I have a few other on the chopping block if they don't Dazzle me pretty soon.....LOL Got pic's!!!

Kristy's bloomed pretty last year. I believe. If I have the name right. Oh Kristyyyyyyy. Where are you? lol

Karyn doesn't it look like that this season was even shorter and worse then last for most of us? At least Brug wise? Man I wonder if we better get used to it. Due to the climate changes?

Susan I have had brugs for about 15 or so years. But recently has gotten into more brugs because of all the different varieties that are now available. Also I have added you to my cuttings list I don't Mine sharing, who would not want to share God Beauty. I am always changing the garden moving things from one area to another. sometimes even across the tracks. So from now on I will always remember that someone else could use that which i am throwing across the Tracks. Susan I have no Secret I just water about 3 times a day and fertilize about 3 times a week. Sometimes my plants are DRUNK on Miracle Grow. So when they sober up They get DRUNK all over Again. They are Miracle Grow-aholics. And In the Fall I am going to send these brugs to Rehab. OK Mrs Lucy I have made a vow to not Throw anymore across the tracks. Keeping In mine that someone will be glad to Have that which I am Tossing away. Chocolate Brug

Do you have a potting soil moisture probe? It can REALLY help! I have had the same one for 27 years!!! It is cheap and can save you alot of heartache where soil moisture issues are concerned. Many, many times over the years, I would have thought a particular plant in soil was dry, but lo and behold it had alot of moisture further down the container. Also...if possible, when rooting something in soil (and ALOT of perlite...) try to use sometype of clear container that you can drill holes in. That way you can see roots forming and the extra water can drain out the bottom. After the 1st watering (which includes Super Thrive & seaweed extract) don't water again for a while. A little plumeria trick...when potting up your cutting, slope the soil mixture down away from the cutting. That way when you do give your cutting a little drink of water (or spray...) the moisture will roll down the sides of the rooting container away from the base of the cutting where it could rot. The newly formed roots will then reach out to find the moisture. :) Make sure you scrape off all mushy parts off your cutting and then after rinsing in clear water to clean it off, dip it in rooting hormone powder (try to get one with a fungicide in it) prior to planting. Your room is attractive and I find the monochromatic look calm and sophisticated. Much better without the knickknacks. I don't think it looks impersonal at all. As it is, the wing chair is not part of the conversation area in the room, and to my eye it makes the room look a bit awkward or even unfriendly since no-one would choose to sit there. I suggest that you switch the side table to the fireplace side of the wing chair, and pull the wing chair as close to the sofa as you can without blocking the traffic path. It will be closer to the fireplace which is also good - it should look like an inviting chair to read a book at the fireside on a chilly day. Don't try to center it in the nook - I'd put a plant in the nook. For the same reason, move the love seat closer to the fireplace by a foot or so. I like the burgundy color but whatever color you choose, it needs to be repeated to look intentional. Maybe a burgundy and cream print on the pillows instead of the solid color, to avoid the spotty look. And a burgundy throw over the sofa or love seat and/or a cream throw over the back of the wing chair. Your pillows look firm and uninviting. Replace them with ones a bit larger, and with softer filling such as down or feather/down. Given the satiny texture of your sofa, velvet or velour pillow covers would look good as a contrast and to add a soft touch.

Toilet swap mess!

Hi Alana, I showed your picture to my husband to make sure I was remembering correctly. The short answer here is that you need to call in the calvary in the form of plumbers. My parents retirement home was a 1940’s home in SW MT. They asked my husband to replace their toilet as my dad had lost his vision from AMD & wasn’t able to do the handy work he’d done for so long. So, while on a visit to them, off we all went to the big box store to buy the new toilet. My husband removed the old, original toilet & quickly determined that even a new flange wasn’t going to work bc the fittings weren’t lined up. Called the local plumber - they were able to seat the toilet with some kind of flange & all was good. Fortunately there was a second toilet in the house. My parents home was in a small town with many older homes so the plumbers were accustomed to seeing old fittings etc. I hope that’s the same situation you have - find a long established plumber who has seen old buildings.

This season was absolutely horrible for my brugs and dats. Almost everything was delayed by several weeks but did eventually catch up. Not the brugs. Even now I have some that haven't put out a single bud. I really hope next year is better.

I had been meaning to ask the same question as Lucy as my 'brug experience' this year has been the worst I've ever experienced. First the long cool sping, then an airborne wilt likely from tomatoes in the neigbborhood, and now we're 5" behind in rainfall (realizing some of you are way worse off in that regard). I got one small flush on several brugs n dats then zilch. Now a few more have scattered buds forming but ooooh so slowly....and it won't be long before old man frost makes an appearance here in the northland. OK, nuf whining! i have plenty of deadheading to do today on an 'off work' day and its beginning to get light enough to stand out in the yard w my coffee and figure out the 'plan of the day'. Lol Karyn not a great brug this year here too..I put mine in the ground and it only grew a little bit all summer..I was really excited about this one..It was my first double from April..Next year it is growing in a pot in the gh... Well we have next year for our bruggies..It was a tough year up north and the east...Brr and wet..lol

Bad year with hardly any blooms here as well. If we don't have a long fall I won't see much this year on any of them.

I had great blooms, and then all of a sudden, I counted 47 buds within 2 days, on the floor. I asked the forum about that at the time and everyone agreed that it was probably because of the heat. It was 102/103 degrees on my patio.

This year sucked for my brugs too! I have more that didn't produce blooms than did! :(

I'm not jinxing myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll stick to the WM comments, lol. Mine didnt make it thru last winter, after all the complaints I heard about her, I dont mind her not making it..except the lost money part of it :/

Karyn, my Phanomenal has constantly been doing the same thing since Spring. Buds all summer,always buds on it, not one bloom though. Buds would get to be like 4" then drop. Maybe they want cooler weather, Edna told me that her Phanomenal is like that, and she is the one I rcvd mine from..thank you Edna!
Maybe you just got lucky last year with WM, lol.
My Phanomenal has 2" buds right now..yet again, hoping they hold!

My WM has been dropping buds in hot and cool weather. It might not be long for my collection. lol

Hmm, I was kind of attracted to Wretched Mess just for the adventure of seeing what it would produce. Not that I have room for another brug! Sorry to hear yours is behaving badly. With our unusual and violent weather I've had a time getting flowers, however, both Cherub and Heloise are budding now, and I expect Santa Rosa to produce another flush in the coming month. Peach Versicolor is doing absolutely nothing!! Of course it's anyone's guess as to how much longer they can stay outside. I could get a cold snap anytime now and have to drag them all in. Which is why, having seen some whitefly yesterday, I will give them all a dose of systemic insecticide to prevent bringing the nasties in with them. I am quite impressed with my deep pink mandevilla and lavender lady passionflower right now tho. They're going crazy blooming.

Give up the tomato tart recipe. lol My Lavender Lady and vitifolia are two that I can always count on to produce loads of flowers.
